I wanted to write a review after my last order from Wycliffe Tavern, but I thought, “Maybe it was just a bad day.” I picked up another order today, and now I feel I have to share my experience. The first time, I ordered a hamburger and chicken cutlet parmesan. I took one bite of the chicken and had to spit it out. The marinara sauce was terrible—so tangy and unpleasant. I don’t understand why a chef or cook wouldn’t taste their sauce before serving it. I believe they must have changed chefs since the days when it was Café Amici’s, the quality has definitely gone downhill. Today, I picked up an order. When I checked the bag, I noticed I had asked for mayonnaise and ketchup on the side, but only ketchup was included. I asked the girl for mayo.” She told me they don’t carry mayo. I was shocked—how can a restaurant not have mayo? She must have noticed my reaction, because she went back inside and said someone would bring it out. When I paid for the order, I asked for a receipt. She gave me a look, and then had to go back to the register to print one. Overall, I’m very disappointed with this place. After reading other reviews, I see that many people share similar complaints about the service and food. Some seem happy with the addition of a bar, and I agree—it’s nice looking. But if you’re going for the food, I wouldn’t recommend it. They’ve lost me as a customer. I’ve been coming here for years since it was Café Amici’s, but something has definitely changed—and not...
Read moreStopped in for a quick bite today with my best and oldest friend, and we had a perfect lunch. The Tavern Burger was cooked to an exact medium rare, juicy and well-seasoned, and served on a fresh brioche bun. The fries? Worth the trip by themselves! They came out piping hot and crispy on the surface, soft and creamy in the middle, with just the right amount of salt. My buddy got the Noodle Bowl and was impressed with both the flavors and the freshness of the ingredients.
Danny, our bartender, was charming and attentive. Even though they just opened, he knew the menu cold, was able to answer all of our questions, and offered great recommendations. The owners have done a fantastic job of renovating the space, the seating was comfortable, and there was plenty of parking available. 10/10,...
Read moreLunch- we got there early, 11:30, I think only one other table was occupied. Our waiter was very quick to take our order-two sandwiches. It took over 45 minutes to get our food. As it filled up, we saw lots of orders going in, but no one was getting their food despite plenty of wait staff on hand. Sandwiches were so-so and it was obvious that they had been ready for a while. Grilled cheese was lukewarm and soggy on the bottom. The chicken salad sandwich, which was requested to have the bread NOT toasted came out-you guessed it-toasted. Little things, but when you wait that long for a simple order, it’s not a good sign. We used to go to Cafe Amici at least twice a month but not in any hurry to try Wyckoff Tavern again anytime soon. Really...
