update, food has increased 40% not sure if it's because it's slow but instead of paying 50 like we did the last 4 times we've been there but today it was 74$... ordering same food over the phone they didn't let me know the total price. 36$ for just goat egusi soup is ridiculous. I had egusi soup that was just goat meat.... for 4 goat meat pieces total in the soup it was 10$ more than my bfs egusi soup adding goat meat.... and I took out all the goat meat out of my soup and put it up to his and his soup had way more goat meat than mine. one of my goat pieces was literally all fat no meat. the food here is good but I'm not full at all after this meal.. they literally just scammed me😂 I'd go here like once a month sometimes more but I'm not coming back here...

It's been several months of me going there now and I'm changing some things now. I have a serious problem with their menu because it's changed. I think the quality is suffering because of the high demands. I think it's going to hurt them later if they don't...
Read moreMotherland is a small West African grocery that also sells food for takeout. I don’t think there’s anyplace to sit down, but the staff was friendly. I had the egusi soup with fufu, and I splurged with a side of jollof rice. It was very filling, but quite good. The soup was rich and earthy, and the rice had good flavor with some pepper and spice. My friend had the goat meat pepper soup, and he said the flavor was good although the meat was maybe overcooked. Overall, I found the food to be an exciting departure from the norm in West Michigan, and I’ll be sure to try their other dishes...
