I received a text message at 3:34 stating that my order was ready for pickup. I arrived at the DoorDash pickup window at 3:36. I waited for someone to come to the window, there were 2 male staff fixing pints and quarts of ice cream (one of them glanced over at me)and a female staff who walked past the window, looked right at me and proceeded to go over to the counter to the side of the window for something. When she came back towards the window, she picked up some bananas and them sat them back down without ever acknowledging me. She then went over to the front of the store and stood there doing nothing. I waited about another minute, then I knocked on the window. She sent the male staff who glanced at me to the window. He tried opening it, but directed me to go to the window in the front. When I got there, I waited again, the female staff came to the window and snarkily told me that my order was not ready without even asking my name. I told her I received a text saying it was and she responded, “Well, it’s not. It’s getting fixed now.” After waiting longer, the other male staff came to me and brought a bag for Brittany A. I told him that was not my order. I then stated that since it was not ready, they could cancel my order and refund my money. So he asked me my name, I said “Jones”. He went and talked to the female staff and then the female staff reached in the freezer, pulled out a bag and again speaking in a snarky manner said, “That’s not the name on it.” I told her she never even asked me my name when she told me my order was not ready. Speaking again in a snarky manner, she said, “Well, here you go. Have a nice day.” I did not received my order until 3:50pm. The way she spoke to me and the entire interaction was very rude and unprofessional. The way I was treated was very patronizing. In addition when I arrived home and opened my order, the pints were loosely packed, not filling the containers. I have ordered here several times and have never been treated with disrespect and disregard...
Read moreThis is the review I left on Facebook on Aug 29, 2017. As of today, Nov 12, 2017, I am still being harassed because of it. I would have happily edited or removed my review, but after this treatment, I'd like to add that the ethics of the entire establishment and its "customers" is now in question also. It's a shame. I am a huge supporter of locally owned an operated business and often organized groups to spotlight these establishments.
Edit 11/13/17 The owner has continued to message me despite being asked numerous times to stop all communication, to the point that he has now been blacked on social media.
"My husband and I stopped by for the first time on Sunday. We ordered milkshakes. We watched the boy behind the counter prepare the shakes and pour them into the cups. He poured mine into the cup and it didn't seem to fill the cup up. He poured my husband's and it filled the cup the whole way. The boy looked in the mixer pitcher, where there was obviously milk shake that was too thick to pour out. He put the pitcher down, put the lid on the cup and then shook it to make it look like it was full. That was when a second employee came over, continued the blend the milkshake in the pitcher until it could be poured and filled my cup the rest of the way. When the boy brought the milkshakes to the window, I asked him about what we had just witnessed. He became extremely rude and denied what we had just seen. I hope this isn't common practice and this young man wasn't trained to be as deceitful as he was trying to be. The milkshakes were very good, but I don't think we would...
Read morePoor hygiene standards. It's a minimum of a 10 minute wait each time, with at least 10 people waiting because Handel's "needs" to save a few dollars on hiring an extra employee. There's legitimately no one working and when there are extra employees, they're just standing around while you wait outside. This level of stinginess puts a bad taste in your mouth regardless of the actual taste of the ice cream. Bad service always made their ice cream bitter sweet.
But this wasn't what made me vow to never go again... it's how grossed out I get when I see their employees holding the cup or cone with no gloves and often seeing their dirty fingers touch the inside of it. And let's just say that their employees don't look like they wash their hands after going to the toilet. It's just gross.
Compare this to Perrydell farm down the road... where I had to wait for 5 minutes (once) because the girl couldn't find a glove box but I really didn't mind and appreciated that level of care. Perrydell is also around half the price and just as good if not better. And you can see some cute cows at the same time because their dairy comes from their own cows. After 3 chances, I'm never going to Handel's again. So much better to support businesses that actually care about...
