The cheesesteaks are tastier than most in the area but the prices are absolutely ridiculous for the quality. This place looses 2 stars for me. Price compared to quality and portion size is simply not there. Either adjust your prices or buy better ingredients. The last star I will reserve for the disappointment that is Dayanara’s Delight cake slices. This review is solely based on the price/portion and how the quality should meet that price point. Let me say this first; your images of the desserts are close up so they are misleading in size compared to what you actually serve. I hesitated ordering after seeing the $8 price tag on Uber Eats for one slice of carrot cake. I have never tasted or ordered from Dayanara’s bakery personally but I saw the beautiful images of the cakes online with all positive reviews and decided to give it a shot despite the steep price. I have a degree in baking and pastry arts and I used to be a pastry chef in both Baltimore and New York. The cake slices served at this establishment are attractive but taste terrible. The flavor of the icing is suspiciously similar to a thinned out canned icing you buy at the grocery store but you claim it to be cream cheese and is overly sweet, thin, and has a consistency closer to whipped cream. The cheesecake portion in the center has got to be the worst I have ever tasted. The ingredients have separated making the texture feel more like wet cheese. That tells me that they are either not using full fat cream cheese, maybe not enough binders in the batter or too much moisture, possibly a combination of the three. I’m curious about the cream cheese flavor, which is so strong that it almost feels like imitation flavoring. The actual cake has some potential. The texture is okay and you can definitely tell where they may have over-baked the cake as it’s tougher closer to the edges. The flavor could be more balanced by adding more carrots, a touch more salt and definitely needs to use fresh ground spices rather than dried, which should compliment your icing and filling rather than succumb to it. Overall, cake that doesn’t balance flavor, moisture, sweetness, and consistency should not be on the higher spectrum. And what makes it worst is that it’s clear that the ingredients are subpar. Oh and the cake doesn’t even have all the added ingredients that can also add value, like raisins or walnuts. For size comparison I placed the cake next to a regular...
Read moreIn my humble opinion this is THE ONLY place in ALL of Central PA to get a Philly cheesesteak. There, I said it. Don't even bother going anywhere else. All these other places trying to push steak sandwiches just don't do it right. Forget what they try to pass off as a sub roll at any of the local pizza places, don't even bother with that recently opened multi chain sub shop I won't name here. I have been disappointed time and time again by so many cheesesteaks in this region I had all but given up hope. Now there is hope at The SteakOut!
My personal experience here and some tips. Walk in and go up to the counter, if they're busy cooking in the back just grab a slip and fill out on it what you want. They're very friendly here and will acknowledge you and get to you, but understand they get busy. Just fill out the slip and chill out.
If they are busy, and the night I came in they were busy, there will be a wait. It's a newer place and they have limited capacity for as busy as they get but trust me, if you are patient it is worth every minute of the wait. Have a seat and relax. When I was in there all the other customers seemed really chill and friendly. Everyone talked to each other. I really liked the vibe and the friendly community feel of the place.
I ordered the Giant cheese steak with friend onions, American cheese, and ketchup. That's how I like mine, to each their own. Reminds me of the cheesesteaks I used to get as a kid from Terrigno's Deli where I grew up in NJ. Excellent roll, good meat chopped up and cooked right, good melt ratio on the cheese, just the right amount of ketchup. Everything was just right. They know what they are doing with a cheesesteak at this place.
Mr. Bryant, Thank you! Thank you not only for the friendly service and the excellent cheesesteak, but for also opening this awesome sandwich shop and making the effort to...
Read moreSo I would have let it go but I'm very upset with the service I received after waiting forty minutes outside in the parking lot and calling to check the status of an order to be told it isn't in the system only to then drive all the way home after requesting a refund (I ordered through.doordash for pickup and have never done this before. So as soon as the order was placed I started heading there because it was about a 15 minute drive and the order was expected.to be done around that time So it wouldn't have been a big deal,.it was the app and they have nothing to do with it at the steakout) However every time my order status reached the expected time to be complete another minute would be added and I'm being patient waiting for a status of complete as I don't want to go in too soon before the order is ready.
I noticed they didn't seem very busy, still I was patient as I had my child with me and his patience is short
So after forty minutes of being patient and no contact to advise the order is ready and being told they have no order under my name i cancel.with doordash and request.my refund Only then for someone from the steakout to call me after I've driven all the way back home to let me know they do,in fact, have my order and it was supposed.to have been picked up.at 447 I arrived at 459.and called at 530.to check after watching the expected order complete time go up.every minute So I was then asked.of I requested a refund and told,"oh well, we'll just through the food out and I'm sorry about that," The food is amazing and I have ordered several times for delivery but to be expecting an order and then think they never received only to find out I could have gotten my order is very disappointing 🙄🥺poor...
