My family and I stopped by Blazin Burger yesterday before heading home after being out of town. We ordered a smash burger with fries, a cheese cheesesteak, and three drinks should’ve totaled around $20–$30. When we got home that evening, we tried to make another purchase, but my mom’s card was marked as blocked. She was confused, since the last place we had used it was Blazin Burger. The next morning, she called her bank because she found out her card had been charged FIVE TIMES by the restaurant. Two of those charges went through before the card was blocked.
Since my mom works night shifts as a registered nurse and sleeps during the day, I usually handle her daytime calls. She also had an event to host, so I reached out to the restaurant on her behalf. I wanted to inform them asap so they could look into it and resolve the issue sooner than later.
Unfortunately, the employee I spoke with was not very helpful. He either didn’t know how to handle the situation or didn’t take it seriously, because he seemed super nonchalant that came off as doubtful. He told me he couldn’t assist without the exact order amount and time, which I understand, I know it helps pinpoint transactions in their system. But, we didn’t keep the receipt, and I couldn’t access my mom’s bank statement without her phone, so I knew I would need to call back.
When I followed up to say I’d likely call back the next day to tackle this, he casually mentioned that the manager had just left. That part made me upset. If the manager was there during the initial call, this issue should have been handed to them immediately. This wasn’t a minor mistake; it involved multiple unauthorized charges. I was then told to call back another day to speak with the manager, which was also just as upsetting. So I frustratingly said he should’ve given the phone to the manager. I definitely sounded frustrated and he gave me just a bit of hostility. I think he said “okay,” and we both tried to hang up as fast as we could. I don’t do well with confrontation, and I felt it a bit on the call a few times.
My mom will dispute the charges through her bank. But, it’s still important to bring this to the restaurant’s attention so they have the opportunity to verify the issue, issue any necessary refunds, cancel any pending transactions, and address the problem internally to prevent it from happening again. The fact that the employee didn’t seem concerned enough to involve a manager, and left us no choice but to escalate it through the bank, is exactly why I’m leaving this review. Charging a customer’s card five times, failing to escalate the issue, not treating it with urgency, and offering no immediate help is unacceptable. Hopefully, this serves as a heads up to others. If you dine here, be sure to check your bank...
Read moreI arrived around 9:00 PM to find the dining area mostly empty, with only one other table occupied. I also noticed that many of the unoccupied tables had not been cleaned.
The employee who greeted us was very pleasant, which led us to decide to stay and order. We ordered a Blazin' Burger, an OG Burger (with no onions or mustard), and a Burger Bowl. Shortly after placing our order, another employee came from the back, wiping his hands on his shirt.
While the food was average, there were a couple of issues with our order. The OG Burger unfortunately came with both mustard and onions. The Burger Bowl was quite large but did not particularly impress us. We ate most of the burgers and some of the fries but discarded the rest.
Beyond the food, the overall cleanliness of the public areas was concerning. In the dining area, a vacuum cleaner, broom, and other items were piled up next to the garbage can. A gray bin overflowing with trays. The "wet floor" cone appeared to have accumulated significant grime. Additionally, an arcade game, ice cream freezer, and other items were crammed against a wall, obstructing what seemed to be nice wall graphics.
I was particularly surprised by the large number of garbage bags, which appeared to be stacked in the crowded hallway leading to the restroom. This hallway, as well as the area beyond the restroom, also contained various other items, including what looked like cleaning supplies.
The restroom itself was not well-maintained. There was no toilet paper readily available near the toilet, and the paper towel dispensers were empty or non-functional, although a mostly used roll of paper towels was on the floor YUCK!. The foaming soap dispenser did not produce foam. Furthermore, despite mounted paper towel dispensers being present throughout the dining area, none of them were working. We were also unable to find any napkins and were given a small stack of C-fold paper towels when we asked. It was peculiar that every table had a box of tissues, which seemed to be the only alternative to napkins, the tissues became soaked with grease when we attempted to use them.
When I inquired with the clerk about the large quantity of garbage bags, his response was that he buys them wholesale to resell.
My suggestion would be to prioritize your core offerings and dedicate more attention to the cleanliness of your establishment. Replacing the tissues with proper napkins and ensuring the entire premises, especially the dining area and restrooms, are thoroughly cleaned would significantly improve the customer experience. Ideally, the cleanliness should be such that anyone, including one's own mother, would feel comfortable...
Read moreToday we embarked on a journey: to sample burgers from 3 local burger places and leave honest reviews. Here is my in-depth take on Ypsilanti’s famous Blazin Burgerz:
-Location: located in the Southern portion of Ypsi, this hidden gem is just that: slightly hidden and on the corner of an unsuspecting location. Parking isn’t bad, and there are a few outdoor tables.
-We ordered the recommended Blazin’ Burger and fries. I will say, the burger was quite juicy, and the fries were crisp and had a delicious texture. Seasoning wise, the fries needed a bit of salt, but if low-sodium is your thing, then they’re perfect as-is! The burger was supposed to be spicey, but it was low-to-no spice, as it had just a few small jalepeños on top. There were a lot of fresh toppings that made it feel like it was swimming in a salad…. Buttttt it was a yummy burger! It felt like a standard thin-patty American burger. Many other burgers on their menu seemed thicker and more interesting, but for a standard burger, it was great!
-Atmosphere: The interior was decorated with fun signs, and the staff was friendly. The pricing was fair. They offer meal bundles, and there is a kiosk inside(if avoiding speaking to a person is your thing).
Overall, I’d give this a 4.5/5 stars. Nice job Blazin’ Burgerz 👍
(P.S… don’t try the hand sanitizer by the door. My worst fear came true- it was empty. That means a bunch of other germy hands who also needed sanitizer touched it, and I now had all of them on my own hands. Thanks for coming to my TED talk about sanitizer lol)
Okay that’s it for real- thanks again, Blazin’!!!!(the sanitizer didn’t actually...
