Donald's Donuts — Restaurant in Zanesville

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Donald's Donuts in Zanesville, Ohio, and I can confidently say it was an outstanding experience! Recognized as the best donut shop in the country by USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards, this place truly lives up to its reputation.

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The aroma of freshly baked donuts filled the air, making it impossible to resist trying a few. The selection of donuts is impressive, with a variety of flavors and styles to choose from. I opted for their famous apple fritter, and it truly lived up to the hype. It was perfectly golden-brown on the outside, with warm, deliciously spiced apple filling on the inside. The texture was delightful—crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside.

In addition to the apple fritter, I also sampled their classic glazed donut and a filled jelly donut. Both were incredibly fresh and flavorful, and it was clear that the ingredients used were of high quality. The glazed donut had just the right amount of sweetness, while the jelly donut was generously filled without being overly sweet—a perfect balance!

What stood out even more was the exceptional service. The staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about their donuts. They took the time to recommend their favorites and even offered to customize orders, which made the experience feel personalized.

If you plan to visit, I highly recommend stopping by as soon as they open or around 7 AM. They sell out fast, and the shop closes by 2 PM.

Stopped into Zanesville to try Donald’s Donuts and they were solid. If you’re driving along the interstate and like donuts, pop in! The yeast donuts in particular were exceptional.

The shop is small but the parking lot was convenient to get in and out of (even with a trailer - ha). Those working there were polite and helpful.

We tried a variety of donuts and here are my thoughts: The plain glazed was my favorite. It was so light and airy on the inside, raised and fried. The glaze was the perfect level of sweet. The worker who served me recommended the cake stick and this was delicious. The cake donut was a bit crisp on the outside with a soft inside and the plain glaze on it was perfect. The chocolate iced cake donut was ok. I wasn’t impressed with the cake dough here and the chocolate icing was weak in terms of real coco powder. The chocolate iced long John was yeast dough and pretty good but I’m not as big of a fan of filled donuts. The other cake donuts I tried were similarly a little dry on the inside and lacking the crisp outside I did find with the cake stick.

I wish I could have tried the double chocolate and the sour cream glazed but it was sold out.

This is the second time we’ve purchased from Donald’s Donut. We’re not from the area so we’ve always bought a whole box to enjoy when we’re there. I absolutely love this place. Their donuts are made fresh every morning, and even after a day or two the donuts are always still nice and soft. My personal favorite is the cinnamon sugar raised donut. The dough is fluffy on the inside and a bit crunchy on the outside. The cinnamon sugar coats the donut just right without the whole thing being overwhelmingly sweet. It reminds me of home. Shout out to the lady that helped us get our donuts yesterday. We really wanted a cherry raised donut which they didn’t carry, but she went out of her way and glazed an original raised donut with cherry for us.
