I drove over an hour to try this place because they had a salmon crepe on the menu. I had a great salmon crepe at My Little Paris years ago and sadly they went out of business. I have been trying to find a suitable replacement. The crepe itself as a shell was good, but I ran into the same thing I ran into when I went to Crepe Nation. The crepe I got here, Le RiviĂšre, should have had half the cream cheese and twice the salmon. I could barely find the salmon and itâs an expensive crepe, $16, and not an $8 one, letâs say from Crepe De Jour in Frankenmuth. The veggies in it were fresh and I did like my boyfriendâs Le Metro that actually had visible pieces of bacon in it. They had a tiramisu crepe on their board I should have gotten instead. I was really disappointed. My first bite was tons of cream cheese, way too much and a few tiny flecks of fish, like maybe 2 millimeters by 1 half millimeter round flecks of fish. I couldnât taste the salmon. I really should have called a waitress over and changed my order. After eating it, I got queasy and almost threw up. The matcha latte I got was great and my partnerâs chai latte was fantastic, but I got to mark this place off a couple of stars because the salmon crepe was just so lacking in actual salmon. I didnât want a cream cheese with a tiniest bit of salmon flavor crepe. I think I am going to give up trying to find a salmon crepe as good of quality as My Little Paris. I donât think it exists. I would be willing to give this cafe another shot, because the service and atmosphere was nice, but I really want to order a crepe that has more than minuscule amounts of protein in it. If the menu says salmon, it should be at the very least, small slices of delicious salmon. Not about a tablespoon of tiny flecks in a huge crepe. Salmon should really be the star of a salmon crepe and be able to actually be seen in the crepe. I am actually disappointed looking up salmon crepe recipes and seeing the smoked salmon slices I should have had in my crepe. Brings a tear to my...
Read moreLast week I had the pleasure of eating here with a friend. The décor was fresh; the printed menu was straightforward and the selections were varied & not overly extensive (simplicity is SO refreshing!). The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful without any obtrusiveness. Our food arrived to our table at a relaxed, appropriate interval; both portion and presentation were lovely. I ordered the crepe Monte Cristo, and I really liked it - with the unfortunate exception of the dried rosemary. Why, why, why do west Michigan restaurants use this subpar ingredient when fresh rosemary is so readily available??? First of all, it's like eating pine needles or picking out fishbones - the texture was an unwelcome interruption. Then, there's the obvious radical difference in flavor profile: some herbs do not retain the complex aromatics when dried, and what's left tends to throw everything out of balance. If La CrÚme is committed to using locally sourced ingredients, it would seem this is such an easy fix, and one that would elevate the flavor of this otherwise well-prepared entrée. If the restaurant is dedicated to controlling waste, here's a tip by which you can extend the life of fresh rosemary: I pick mine and strig it (removing the leaves by pinching and running my fingers down the stem, opposite how it grows), mince it finely and mix it with Kosher salt. It dessicates naturally without commercial drying methods which alters the taste, and because it's finely minced, no more...
Read moreOnline ordered. Same instance as Joel Merfeld recently mentioned, and the order was placed under my name, so maybe that will help jog your memory. I placed my order at 10:49am, food was supposed to be ready for pick-up at 11:20. We arrived at 11:23, and food was supposed to be "the next order being made. Please wait 10 minutes." Inconvenient, but okay..if you're busy, that's not too bad. I went back inside 10 minutes later, and was not recognized as having been in there moments earlier. I watched the owner shuffle through orders by the cooking area, she then asked me if I'd had the 11:45 order with quiche (no, not mine..mine was the 11:20 order, no quiche). She came to the register computer to hand write my order on a slip of paper and put it back in queue in the cooking area. Then there was no boba to go in my beverage, so I had to settle for a fruit smoothie (made with way too much flavor concentrate, to be honest) instead. The only thing I was told when finally handed my order was, "Sorry I misunderstood your time." I left quite frustrated. It was 11:56 by the time I got back in my car with my food. At least the crepes had good flavor once we finally got to eat them. I'll give three stars because the food is usually very good, but the wait was an unexpected...
