This restaurant has a lot of potential but sadly they are messing up.
Operating hours are incorrectly posted on Google as 11:00 p.m. closing. If this is not true, it's the owner's responsibility to correct it.
Bad communications and bad attitude. When I called this restaurant before taking a taxi over here and planning to come here, I asked them very clearly. Twice the two different ways. What time do you take your last customer and they said 10:30. And I said so. If I arrive at 10:30 to eat dinner that's okay. And the person said yes. And this made sense based on an 11:00 closing time. But when I arrived at 10:10 a different colleague said, "but we're closing". I said "no, you can't do that. I called beforehand". She then went and argued with another colleague and then seated us but was unhappy about it. I could go on at length here but then the person I spoke to on the phone came and said that he meant that the closing time was 10:30 and that I only came 20 minutes before closing time, so he accused me of making a mistake but it was his English. He's obviously not an Indian otherwise he would speak English.
Not necessarily safe for vegans. I ordered a soup where there was no indication at all that it would have cream, in fact if it was made to any other Indian restaurant it would not have cream, in other words, in a deviation from standard they added cream to their soup. This is after I told them no cream for the dishes that I thought would potentially have it, so they knew I objected to cream. When I mentioned this he said there wasn't any cream and then he went and checked with the chef and found out there was but he didn't apologize and he didn't offer to remake it.
I've eaten Indian food all over the world including India and I've had very spicy Indian food before, but at least three of the dishes were so overpowered with spice that they weren't edible. It ruined my wife's last night in Tashkent, for our farewell because she couldn't eat the food, it was off-putting. Off-putting. And after I had only a few bites, my stomach was so upset that I couldn't finish. It wasn't Indian hot. It was Thai hot. I think that they did this to punish us for coming toward their closing time.
They charge a ridiculous 20% service fee which is unheard of in Uzbekistan. If it was 15% and might be tolerable. But their service was pitiful, I would describe it as arrogant, complacent, inept, smug. Didn't deserve a tip let alone a mandatory service fee. They didn't ask us how our meal was. They didn't offer the service any more beverages our drinks ran out and we were sitting there dying of spice.
They are complete liars when they say that they are cash only. I was surprised to discover it was cash only and it required more cash than I had and I was going to have to go to an ATM machine to meet the requirement. But they took all the cash I had and then put the rest on the terminal. So very clearly they have a capability of taking cards but they just don't want to. That's not an honest way to do business.
Confusion about lack of alcohol. Many reviews mention beer and one mentioned mojitos. But when I asked them about having alcohol the answer was no alcohol. Which is fine because I don't need to drink anyway. But there is clearly an inconsistency and this makes me wonder if they lost their alcohol license since they evidently served in the past.
Although they have quality ingredients and quality color and could make a very nice Indian restaurant if they wanted to, and for some people. Evidently they've given them good Indian food and that's why they get people coming back. I would say my assessment of this place is a mixed review leaning towards below the halfway mark and enlightened of being insulted and humiliated. I definitely won't be coming back and I won't recommend this place to anyone. If friends want to bring me here I will insist on going to a different...
Read moreOverpriced and Underwhelming Experience at The Curry House_
I recently reviewed The Curry House, an Indian restaurant that left me feeling disappointed and overcharged. The menu boasts an extensive selection of traditional Indian dishes, but the prices are steep, with most entrees ranging from $20 to $35.
Unfortunately, the quality and portion sizes didn't justify the cost. I ordered the Chicken Biryani, which was flavorful but lacked depth and richness. The serving size was also smaller than expected.
In contrast, I've had the pleasure of dining at Zaytoon, a nearby restaurant that offers superior Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine at significantly better prices. Their portions are generous, and the flavors are bold and authentic.
For example, Zaytoon's Chicken Biryani is a steal at $3.99, with a serving size that's nearly twice as large as The Curry House's but curry house cost 5$ -7$ . Plus, their naan bread is very cheap 0.5$ and quaility and quantity not compromised whereas The Curry House's was stale and overpriced at $1 -4$
Unless The Curry House revises their pricing strategy, I'd recommend opting for Zaytoon's exceptional value and delicious food. Save your wallet and your taste buds the disappointment.
Recommendation: Try Zaytoon for a more authentic and affordable Indian...
Read moreI visited this restaurant after seeing good reviews and went in with high hopes—but unfortunately, my experience was the complete opposite.
I was tired when I arrived and requested the waiter to serve tea first before the food. However, he completely ignored the request and brought the tea only after the food was served. The staff appeared indifferent and inattentive throughout. Despite several of them roaming around, they took over 45 minutes to serve the food, and when it finally arrived, the taste was extremely disappointing. It didn’t resemble authentic Indian flavors at all.
Even something as simple as papad, which usually takes a minute to prepare, took 20 minutes, and no one seemed concerned or apologetic. There was zero customer focus—neither from the waitstaff nor any manager. It felt like no one cared about the service or guest satisfaction.
The next day, we visited Raj Kapoor Indian Restaurant, and the difference was like night and day—excellent food and very attentive staff. I’m sharing this to help other tourists avoid a similar letdown.
This is, of course, my personal experience, but I would not recommend this place to anyone expecting quality service or authentic taste.
