Got the combo bowl and it was a combination of savory, filling, and just so freaking good.
If you're someone who really wants to eat like the locals, this is is the spot for mi Quang!
The combo has chicken and bits of fried seafood. I got the egg too and you can see from the pic it has a golden sheen. They season their boiled egg! You get a huge plate of leafy greens and there's garlic/chili fish sauce on the table as well.
So how would you eat this noodle concoction?
When your bowl comes, it'll come in a bowl (Duh). Inside the bowl are white noodles. That's what makes this differenet. (In other areas of VN, the noodles would be yellow since it's made with turmeric.) There's a soupy base at the bottom of the bowl. But it's not like scalding hot or ice cold. This isn't pho.
Squeeze some lime juice, tear up the greens, and scoop in one spoonful of the fish sauce thing into the bowl. (If you bring over some of the chili from the bowl, be aware that's it's spicy. If black pepper is too spicy for you irl, forego the chili.) Use the lime and clean your chops sticks with it.
Order a beer and ask for the toasted rice cracker. This isn't even on their menu. It's like, 'iykyk'.
Most people wouldn't know to order this but it elevates the dish! This costs a little extra but it's how the locals eat it! You break the cracker up into smalls bits and toss em into bowl and the soup will soften it just a little.
Once you have your setup, dig in!
I was recommended this spot by local business owner. The owners of the restaurant was incredibly nice and turned on all the fans for us although we were the only ones outside. Yes; they have fans outside AND inside.
I'm writing this at 1am and I'm starting to drool. Highly recommend! Not...
Read moreHad a lunch here and got a special Mi Quang bowl with all the toppings. Some of the meat were really salty and the Mi Quang itself was not so great. It seems like this place is getting good reviews mostly from the foreigners, so maybe they do not know what good mi Quang tastes like.
Update: I initially gave this place a 3 star with the comment above, but this place gave me a response with very offensive, unnecessary, and inappropriate language. I have reviewed thousands of places and this is literally the 1st time getting this type of response even though i rated them 3star. I have tried 30+ mi quang places across vietnam and this one is below average as far as i have experienced and i know what i am talking about. Just make sure you guys know what type of person’s restaurant you are walking into. With their response, i have lowered my rating...
Read moreEdit: I originally rated this place 5 start the first time I went. But then the second time, the owner gave me very little meat with lots of fat, even-though I asked him to give me less fat. I also ordered extra meat which he charged me 50k extra for just a little bit of meat with LOTS of fat. I asked my Vietnamese g/f and she told me I was overcharged for this. I'd like to support local businesses in Vietnam but consistency is key for me as well as a long lasting clienteles.
The best Mi quang I’ve had in Vietnam. I tried the Special Beef Noodles and was blown away with the noodles texture and the broth. The owner is also very friendly and likes to chat with customers. Over all the food is delicious and the portion was...
