We stayed at Hanami Hotel for two nights in July 2022. The only positive thing I can say about the room is that the air conditioning worked. I was frankly shocked at the state of the room given the number of positive reviews about this hotel.
The room was not clean. Our bedsheets were heavily stained with lipstick, ashes, and god knows what else. The room stank of tobacco smoke and mold from the moment we walked in. We dealt with it the first night because we arrived very late, but the next day, we asked that the room be cleaned and the bed sheets changed. Our request to stay in another room was denied since the hotel was supposedly fully booked. After arriving back from the beach, we found that the bed linens had been folded but not changed. The same ashes and lipstick stains were still there. We asked again that the sheets be changed, and housekeeping was sent up to do so. The rest of the room did not appear to have been cleaned, other than folding the towels, that day. The fact that we had to ask twice and still did not have a clean room really bothered us, as we expect a 3-star hotel to at least fix any issues when asked. Hanami Hotel did not do that and certainly was not prompt about it.
The rest of the room was in terrible shape. There were scuffs all the way up the walls (honestly, I’m not sure how someone scuffed things up that high) and a plaster crack running the entire horizontal length of the wall above the desk. The shower drained slowly. A random pipe in front of the shower leaked. Wallpaper was peeling and torn. The nightstands were dinged and the closet doors were warped. We could see hallway light around the edges of the entry door. Due to the issues we had getting the sheets changed, the denial of our request to change rooms, and the receptionist’s basic grasp of English (and our lack of Vietnamese), we did not bring this full list of concerns to their attention during our stay. Pick your battles.
Despite the no smoking signs, someone was smoking a tobacco pipe in the hallway and/or another room in the middle of the night, causing smoke to leak into our room. The smell was terrible and we both woke up with sore throats.
The hotel is noisy. We could hear people moving about and yelling at their children as late as 11 PM and as early as 6 AM. We had trouble sleeping due to the combination of noise and smoke.
Our rate did not include breakfast. After our experience with the room, we were not inclined to explore the rest of the facilities.
The beach is a short 7-minute walk away. There are several coffee shops nearby the hotel. The Dragon Bridge is a 35-minute walk.
We absolutely do NOT recommend staying at this hotel. Even at a low price, we expect our bed to be clean and issues to receive attention. Neither was the case at Hanami Hotel. If we could give zero...
Read moreApril 22, 2024 I have stayed at Hanami Hotel twice. I would recommend the hotel, despite my comments below., as long as you accept this is a budget hotel with no customer service.
The 5 star reviews I suspect are paid reviews. This is not an exceptional hotel, it is not exquisite as one reviewer wrote. It is a budget hotel. The wall paper is pealing off, it is clear the management does not emphasize long term maintenance, but it is a budget hotel. You get what you pay for. If you wish to speak to management beyond the front desk, it's entirely impossible.
It is a good budget hotel. The hotel is in a nice location and the price is right. I have stayed in several different rooms. One of rooms, Room 706 has an old air conditioner situated behind the bed which is extremely loud. I recommend you NOT stay in that specific room. It is possible they may change the air conditioner and then the room would be a very good room. I recommend you look out the bathroom window and if you see an old rusty air conditioner like in the picture attached below then do not stay in that room.
I informed the receptionist about the air conditioner for several days, and repeatedly I was told they would fix the air conditioner tomorrow. Finally when I said I was moving out, they told me they would replace the air conditioner. They even sent me a picture of a new air conditioner, yet that evening when the noise was as loud as ever, I saw they did not replace the air conditioner. I am bewildered why they told me they were changing the air conditioner. If you have problems do not count on Hanami Hotel to address the problem.
It is a budget hotel and the problem was that specific room. There is a very good chance you will not have any problems, but do not count on any resolution of problems should a problem arise.
I had asked for a refund of the 4 sleepless nights, yet they only offered to refund the night when they lied to me that they had replaced the air conditioner when they did no such thing. When I decided to leave the next morning, they did not provide me the credit for that one night as they said they normally do not refund customers money. They said I was lucky to get more than 50% of my paid nights returned to me. Again, very strange as they offered to refund 100% of my money the day before. The day before I had packed my bags and told them I was leaving, and I was actively looking for another hotel when they called and told me they were replacing the air conditioner. so I decided to stay. It was all very odd.
If you stay here, just hope there are...
Read moreEDIT: after the hotel staff's response here and their heartfelt apologies at check-out, I wanted to give another star. The admin staff clearly felt bad and did their best to make amends, which is very commendable and appreciated. While I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable staying here again, I can say with confidence that, should any accidents or uncomfortable situations occur, staff do acknowledge them and do their best to make it up and I have a lot of respect for that.
Initial review: My initial experience was good - room was clean, good service with check-in. Room had a musty feel which seems common in the area, alleviated with ac and fan. However since room power is dependent on the key card being inserted, when you leave for the day the room gets quite damp and stagnant.
However, on my last day staying at Hanami, I had put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door to take a rest. Staff ended up knocking on my door. Confused, I checked with the viewing hole that it was a female staff and then opened the door, only feeling comfortable to do so since it was a woman who was clearly staff. The female staff member waves a man into the room and he barged past me. Shocked and uncomfortable, I asked what was going on. The female staff member simply pointed to the floor, where the man was crouched looking at the floorboards. They spoke to each other in Vietnamese but didn't attempt to communicate with me. Again, I asked in English what was happening and was completely ignored. I was unable to get to my phone to translate my query. Then both parties got up and left without another word. I felt extremely uncomfortable and shaken. They were completely inappropriate and disrespectful. I have no problem that they couldn't understand me or speak English in return. However, they should've communicated clearly with me via Google translate or something similar before shoving past me to get into my room and ignoring my queries. Additionally, I had the sign up saying Do Not Disturb which they also ignored. Really disappointed and disturbed at the way these staff treated me. While a good price and cleaniness are important, both of which this hotel has, safety and the respect of guests is necessary to create a comfortable stay and during my stay Hanami hotel...
