If you're in Da Lat, take the time to have a nice dinner in this very tastefully done restaurant. The people, decor and ambiance, everything makes the place feel so nice and calm. The food is pretty good, and not overly pricey either.
It's tucked away in an alley, though there is a large lit sign on the street it's technically on so you can't miss it. When we found it and walked on the path leading us to the inner courtyard, there was a nice looking gentleman with a friendly smile walking past us. He had a nice suit on, you can tell he knows how to dress. Turns out he was the owner. He followed us back to the restaurant and led us in, and a friendly woman also welcomed us.
Soon after we sat down, a group of three young men came in. They played cards while waiting for their food. Then a bigger group came in and was seated in the group room. They seemed to be having a good time too. There was soft music in the background, and the walls feature paintings that I'm guessing is by the owner (read somewhere he's also an artist).
We chatted with the owner a little bit - he was friendly and had a wonderful smile. Not only does he own the place - he also took our order and gracefully brought each of our dishes to the table.
During our chat we found out that the renovations next door was to be a 5-star hotel with a pool. We said oh that's great then you'll get more patrons. But he graciously smiled and informed us that unfortunately the hotel is owned by a Chinese entity (i.e. from the PRC). These setups mean that money never leaves the company to benefit the surrounding local Vietnamese businesses. Chinese tourists who go on these package tours typically will only stay at Chinese-owned hotels, eat at Chinese-owned restaurants, use Chinese-owned transport companies etc. We were recently in Chiang Mai, Thailand and also heard from our local business owner friends there that the same thing is happening there as well.
In any case, we wished him and his family well. The whole experience was really great. Do come and support this locally owned business in Da Lat. Have one of your meals at Artist...
Read moreTerrible food. I can't remember even a single place in the world have such terrible food.
We ordered 5 different meals. All of them were really just terrible.
The most funny part was tomato juice, which was just water with half a tomato or less. Most of the food was not fresh. Pork was like a plastic Beef was like a plastic Fish was salty The mashed potato was like couple of days old
Only water and rice were ok.
Also we asked about card payment, they said we accept all types of cards)))
Guess what, in the end we just paid in cash because they do not accept cards.
The good thing was the lovely staff ( two guys both speaking english) except the card part)
In the end we just left the restaurant without eating even 10% of our meal.
I don't know how this place has so many good reviews especially about food.
Putting 2 stars just because of the design and the wall paintings.
They definitely need to change their kitchen staff especially the chef, if they have of course, because the feeling was that they asked some random guy from the street to cook for us.
I'm really sorry for writing such a terrible review.
If you know how western food tastes never visit this place.
P.S. prices were...
Read moreI rarely get so attached to a restaurant, but this place won me over completely. The food is so delicious that even when I was full, I kept wanting to try more. And every time I got hungry, this was the only place on my mind!
The atmosphere feels just like home—warm, cozy, and welcoming. The owners and staff put so much heart into everything, from the way they serve the food to the way they make you feel as a guest. Their kindness, along with the beautifully prepared dishes and incredibly affordable prices, made this an unforgettable experience.
My top dishes I’m ready to eat every time - onion soup must try ! Avocado salad , mashed potato with chicken and mushroom sauce, mashed potatoes with steamed fish and steamed vegetables . Chicken cream soup ,all type of fresh juices . All portions are super big ,you will be full and happy the time leaving place after food ;)
The restaurant’s design adds to its charm, with walls adorned by paintings created by the owner, creating a personal and artistic touch. The relaxing music and the fact that the staff speaks English very well make it even more inviting.
I will definitely be back the next time I...
