Nhà Hàng Nhật Ly — Restaurant in Da Lat City

I had lunch here in early Nov 2024. I was shocked at the level of customer service. The waitress was just looking at her phone while seated in the next table after she handed the menu to me. Had to call her to take my order. Zero knowledge of English. Couldn't answer any of my questions. I just ordered by pointing at pictures. The taste is good, rice is fragrant. The ambience takes you back to the 70s kind of feeling. Prices are mid-range so it's acceptable. When making payment, I received the same unfriendly treatment. Since they were so unwelcoming, I did not return to this restaurant but I patronised their neighbour 2 doors away 3 times during my stay in Dalat. I went in this restaurant because of recommendations of my guide book lonely planet. Especially for a speciality. Of course they didn’t have ! So I asked for another good specialty of THIS restaurant. It was shrimps with tamarin sauce ! 1/ it’s a very ordinary dish from everywhere in Asia 2/. Nothing special. The cooking was ordinary, as I cook it myself. 3/ As usual in Asia, the shrimps didn’t have any taste at all 4/ / the price was not written on the menu, and it was very expensive. Positive point : 7 big shrimps ! Other positive point : they are kindly shy. So I was disappointed : It seems that this restaurant is an expensive banal one. First feeling after first dinner there.
