Beware of the sunbed scam.
I wanted to take a rest on a sunbed at the beach, and the owner told me, "Free bed, if you yum yum," showing me the menu. Assuming that I can take the bed for free if I order something, I accepted and ordered a bottle of beer.
After an hour or so, I tried to pay for the beer as I was trying to leave, and the lady refused to take the money, because apparently I had to order "yum yum(=food)" to get the bed for free. Okay, I guess you don't drink a beer going "yum yum," but then why did she show me the drink page when she was offering...? So according to her, if you don't eat anything, you need to pay 50,000 dong per sunbed.
I usually try my best to stay away from arguments, mostly because I stress too much. But I just couldn't take in her attitude, calling all Koreans "liars" and approaching everybody on her sunbeds, pointing at me and calling me names. So I decided not to just give her 50,000 dong. I asked her for the menu to make it a "fair trade." French fries were 50,000 dong, so I ordered it, but she refused because that's too cheap. I guess she doesn't count french fries as food and drinks them instead...? She insisted that she'd call a police, and I told her to do so, but she merely pretended to call and left me waiting for ages.
It seemed like the police would never come - or more like she never called them - so I told her I'd just leave in five minutes as I might miss the bus. And then she blocked me, sending her coworker running to fetch a police. She came back with a guard instead, who could not understand a word in English. A Vietnamese lady nearby who could speak fluent English offered to translate for me, so I had to explain the entire situation again. They chatted for a minute in Vietnamese, and to my surprise, the owner told me that I had to order a "proper" food over 200,000 dong in order to use the sunbed for free. Wow, did you ever say "free sunbed, if you yum yum 200,000 dong?" Plus, most of the food in the menu were around 50,000 to 80,000 dong (FYI, I can usually eat at around 20,000 to 50,000 dong in local restaurants here).
Even the translator lady tried to tell her that she should've mentioned the price limit from the beginning, but nothing worked. She kept on insisting that it's the restaurant's policy. I really hope no one else gets ripped off from this "Nam Gia" restaurant. The white sunbeds at the beach are theirs, and the green ones are from another store that you can use by...
Read moreWe got recommended this place by our homestay host. It met all our expectations! The gorgeous Vietnamese host was super hospitable, ensuring we had everything we needed and the food was to our liking. She promised to make strong cocktails and boozy they were! We ordered grilled prawns and steamed crabs, which were arguably the freshest seafood we have had all trip. The host was really helpful in helping us pick our own crabs, she even bought out more male crabs from the back for us to pick from as we preferred male over female. The location was a stunning beachside spot with lots of local Vietnamese families enjoying dinner which definitely added to the fun atmosphere. I thought prices were very reasonable/cheap for the freshness and amount you are getting at a restaurant. If you're looking for fresh seafood with a wonderful vibe you have to check this...
Read moreI wouldn’t recommend going here based off our experience. Firstly be prepared that food comes out as of when it’s ready, not all at once (we expected this). We ordered 4 dishes but only 2 came. 25 minutes later we queried where our other 2 dishes were using Google translate and were told “one minute”. After waiting a further 15 minutes a lady came over to let us know they had “forgotten to make our food” and “our waiter had forgotten to follow it up”. They said they could cook the scallops for us but not the fish as it takes too long which was frustrating as it was 9pm at this point and we ordered well over an hour ago. Although they were very apologetic, we felt ignored by staff the entire time and didn’t have a good experience here. The only plus is they took money off our bill, however we left the restaurant extremely...
