We have mixed feelings about this place and were a little disappointed after reading all the five star reviews.
We were there at 6.50 on a Wednesday night and got the very last table for 2. There were 3 of us, so they squeezed in another chair.
To their credit, they moved us as soon as a bigger table became available 15 mins later on the upstairs balacony, which was great as the overhead fan wasn't working and the pedalstool fans were being dominated by other tables.
It took 15 mins for them to take our order and another 40 mins for the food and drinks to arrive.
The drinks were a beer and a can of coke, so no idea why these took so long. The owner was working the room and doing some PR, but didn't apologise or acknowledge the long delay and wait.
He told us the story of how the business started and seemed genuinely interested in his business and staff. However, I feel his time may have been better spent running drinks or taking orders.
The orange chicken was amazing and the mashed potatoe and gravy was a generous size. The popcorn chicken had zero flavour.
The peanut stew just tasted like mushy boiled unsalted peanuts and left us feeling s little underwhelmed.
It was a 30 min walk from the centre of town so we took...

The owners are very happy people who are clearly passionate about food.
I’ve eaten here many times and the staff is always warm and friendly. The good energy in the kitchen is transferred to the food & you can taste the love :)
I love their soup broth: always a surprise and always delicious.
They’re tofu balls are also delicious. It’s the closest thing to vegan “meat balls” I’ve had anywhere in SE Asia.
The Banh Mi is a great treat as well.
Personally I don’t eat much fried foods, but if I did I would get the orange chicken every time. It’s delicious any unlike any other dish in the rest of hoi an, perhaps all of Vietnam.
Also, the prices here are super affordable; two people can enjoy a feast for $10 USD.
My only complaint is that one of the owners smokes cigarettes and the space is very small, making it hard to avoid the smoke completely.
I am very sensitive to cigarette smoke; it can trigger sharp migraines for me.
If the restaurant were to be a non-smoking venue, I would go more often. Luckily, they’re delivery is always timely.
In summary, this is a great restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone, even meat eaters !
Thank you , Peanuts, for your yummy food and...
Read moreSo delicious! Well prepared (and without sugar), good choice of different ingredients to make your own meal, at a top price. Plus, relaxing and quiet atmosphere just a bit out of town.
On the pic is black rice, steamed veg, and tofu in homemade tomato sauce for 50k.
Note: I wanted to give 5 but they charged me twice for the dessert. I bought two things from their vegan shop too, which made the bill quite high. But even when I asked, 365K is really the final price? As it seemed too high for the food and shop items, they said yes and charged my credit card. Until then I had not seen the bill with all items listed, so I asked for the bill to check the price, and saw the cake appeared two times. Which is odd, because there was only 3 tables at the time in the restaurant and I was by myself, so obviously all items I had were only ordered once. They apologized and first tried to tell me to take the 2nd cake for take-away (so still wanting to charge me for more than I ordered), which I declined, so they gave back the...
