Chill music, great drinks, even better service. I have always wanted to visit a jazz bar in Hanoi but they were either far or a squeeze.
Then I heard of Cool Cats at JW Marriott.
At first, I was wary about the cost, but it was not! On to my review!
Ambience:
Dark but with just the right amount of light. When you first enter, you will be greeted by the wait-staff in retro styled clothing, bringing you back slightly in time.
The stage where the musicians play was well lit in warm yellow lighting which does not affected the overall ambience but rather, compliments it.
The sound level was a little loud to the level of you needing to speak into the ear of the person, but you are at a jazz bar, why are you chatting?
Service:
I ordered a table side service where I was allowed to select from a range of spirits to add into my drink. I was guided patiently through the different varieties of one type and which goes well with which.
After my mix was selected, I was treated visually to the formation of the circular ice. The compression mechanism where it absorbs the cold from the cubed ice and disperses it while slowly forcing water out until the two sections meet. Fancy
Food:
I did not order any food but was given some snacks... I kept eating the chips for some reason.
Drinks:
You read the creation if their house special. Next, whenever I see absinthe, I must order. This time, I was treated to the absinthe tower where I had the luxury of dripping cold water through my sugar to suit my taste, anytime.
Overall: Great experience, relaxing environment. Will I return? Yes, at least...

I arrived around 10pm and only watched the last 2 hours of a performance so I might be biased. To be honest as a jazz lover I was a little disappointed.
The music was great especially the pianist, however the vocals could have done a better job owning the stage and singing more confidently/clearly. Not sure if it was the mic or my bad ears, I couldn't really understand what they were singing.
With the beautiful purple lighting and lovely jazz music, the atmosphere was really nice until some guests showed up with flip flops, shorts and started to talk loudly. I had some culture shock as usually you don't see this kind of dress code and behavior in a nice jazz bar like this in other countries.
Cocktails and the service were pretty impressive and in general I enjoyed my night here. Hopefully I'll have a chance to see a better...
Read moreMy first drink was terrible the young bartender served me a champagne from an old bottle been sitting there for awhile, it wasn't even enough amount of a normal glass of champagne. ( video below)
I thought it was a testing glass, after we know it an actually my service glass, we requested them to open a new bottle and fill the glass as it should be.
What's a terrible training and service, I had been too many places, I know how to drink and the standard. This is a five star standard grand venue, terrible mistake.
Jazz band was great ,...
