I recently dined at Sushi 香 Hung HANARE in Thảo Điền and had a mostly great experience, particularly with the food.
There was one key issue that I would like to address though because I think the team there needs a little bit of coaching especially when it comes to dealing with western customers.
The dishes were delicious, and one highlight for me was the vegetable tempura that included water chestnut—a rare ingredient that’s not often found in sushi restaurants, and it truly added a special touch to the meal.
One area I feel could be improved is the payment process.
On the day of my visit, the card machine was temporarily unavailable, and guests were asked to either pay in cash or via a QR code.
The QR code provided was a generic one, requiring manual entry of the amount.
For international guests or anyone unfamiliar with the currency, this can be a bit tricky and adds some friction at the end of an otherwise smooth dining experience.
I completely understand that technical issues can happen, but it would have been helpful to know about this upfront.
If I had been informed about the payment restrictions when I arrived, I would have been better prepared and made my decision accordingly.
To enhance the overall experience, I would highly recommend ensuring the card machine is fixed or at least notifying customers in advance about alternative payment options. This way, guests can enjoy their meal without any concerns at the end of the dining experience.
I really enjoyed the food and the service, and I believe this small change could make the experience even better for everyone.
The key takeaway here is that people don’t always remember what you say or do, but they always remember how you make them feel.
And when the dining experience ends on a negative note, even after a fantastic meal, it can overshadow the entire experience.
This is something that could be easily improved, and I believe it would contribute to making the overall experience much smoother and more enjoyable for...
Read moreGood quality raw fish but totally overpriced. This is Vietnam, yes I know it's Saigon D2, but it's not downtown Tokyo, London or Paris. Furthermore, they served me squid as the third fish in the sashimi trio along with salmon and tuna, instead of the yellowtail pictured. I complained and got it exchanged along with a lousy excuse. I know you did it to maximise profit but one really shouldn't have to complain. It's unpleasant to have to be vigilant at all times, and complaining doesn't aid digestion. Besides, the menu is designed in such a way that you think you'll get a big portion but then it's really small (pictures vs what you get). Very blunt! To top it off, waitress is overly eager to remove dishes even with garnish still on them that one might want to eat, and she lurks annoyingly close behind one, waiting to make her move. Unpleasant. At the price, as you pretend to be a genuine Japanese sushi place, please teach your staff Japanese discretion. Finally, I also missed the shichimitogarashi (chili-based spice mix that's a staple in ANY Japanese restaurant... but not in this one). I certainly...
Read moreWell, for myself, I would like to have Omakase for either fun, interactive and meeting good chef or having a quiet conversation and enjoyed the moment dining. Sushi Hanare were not fulfilled either ones.
This restaurant is not an IZAKAYA OR GOTPO RYORI(かっぽうりょうり), please manager, do not shout. Everything was almost perfect except you talk loudly like you were in a pub. You were more louder than anybody else in the restaurant. Hopefully you were not the owner, if you are then well, good luck.
There were 500k, 700k, 900k VND, and we tried 700K. Quality, um. okay for the price. Chefs were polite and knows what they are doing. Server, they are prompt and trained. Serving orders, awkward, we had a steam eggs (茶わん蒸し) and Miso Soup (Plain, nothing special) as last two dishes. So, I had a Miso for finishing. LOL Well, it is your restaurant and it is your orders. But do not stretch the menu by serving eggs and soup.Very funny to me.
Good potential if manager knows keep her voice down and...
