We are Americans traveling Vietnam and also the world. We were out walking today (walked about 5 miles) and both my husband and I need d a WC and a drink.
When we walked by the restaurant seemed very busy so I suggested we stop in for a drink and maybe a piece of cake or small snack. We don’t use a WC without ordering something but it was a strange time in the afternoon and we didn’t need a meal, although the restaurant was full with people eating both inside and out.
There was some confusion at first as We were originally walking to one area with a server leading the way and then another person asked us a question in English and she seated us in a different area.
This ‘other’ area happened to look like it was ‘foreigners’ and the entire rest of the restaurant both inside and out looked like local people. Made me wonder if there were different menus ?
In any case, there was a Norwegian couple behind us we got talking to, a Russian couple and a French couple.
On the menu was passion fruit cheesecake for 45,000 VND and lots of coffees, which I wanted to order and also beer, which my husband was having. We have been in Nha Trang for several weeks and if we had a pleasant experience we would certainly go back.
Unfortunately, it took forever for someone to wait on us. When someone finally did I tried to order the cheesecake and he pointed to a dessert station and said I needed to go there . Ok, all this seemed a bit off putting but whatever. I ordered my latte and my husband his beer and he was off to the WC.
I couldn’t leave the table until he got back but in the meantime the waiter came over with 2 pieces of cheesecake. (Different flavors). So one said passion fruit, which was 45,000 and I was going to take it but he said no 100,000. Now, keep in mind, I could definitely afford this but I really was only ordering something out of thanks for using the WC, but that’s TWICE the price of the menu passion fruit cheesecake. Idk, it all seemed like a ‘tourist tax’
Look, I generously tip servers, people who work in hotels and others like tour guides. It’s not expected but so appreciated and part of who I am as a person but I strongly dislike being taken advantage of.
I’ve owned businesses in the US for years. You would never get away with posting a price and then charging more than double. Anyway, when I did make my trip to the WC the food people were eating looked good, unfortunately I just had a coffee that was mediocre at best. I refused to order his cheesecake that had somehow doubled in price.
This is just my experience and I’m posting it in hopes they realize how they are treating ‘ foreigners’. I have not had this experience anywhere else and we’ve traveled in Vietnam for a...
Read moreReview of Nha Trang Restaurant My visit to Nha Trang Restaurant was nothing short of exceptional, delivering a truly memorable Vietnamese dining experience that I’d recommend to anyone, especially Western visitors seeking authentic cuisine in NSW, Australia. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and genuine hospitality, making us feel instantly welcomed and at ease. Their attentiveness continued throughout the meal, with prompt service and thoughtful recommendations that enhanced our experience. The food was fantastic, showcasing the vibrant flavors of Vietnamese cuisine. I ordered the Phở Bò (beef phở), which was a highlight—perfectly cooked rice noodles swimming in a fragrant, crystal-clear broth bursting with the delicate balance of star anise, cinnamon, and fresh herbs. The beef was tender, and the accompanying plate of Thai basil, bean sprouts, and lime let us customize each bite. We also tried the Bánh Xèo (crispy Vietnamese pancakes), which were golden, crunchy, and stuffed with succulent prawns and mung beans, served with a tangy fish sauce dip that was divine. Every dish felt fresh, authentic, and lovingly prepared. The atmosphere was equally impressive, blending modern elegance with subtle Vietnamese cultural touches. The warm lighting, tasteful décor with hints of traditional lanterns, and soft background music created a cozy yet lively vibe, perfect for a relaxed meal with friends or family. It’s the kind of place where you can linger over your meal, soaking in the ambiance. For Western visitors craving an authentic Vietnamese experience, Nha Trang Restaurant is a must-visit. It’s not just about the food (though that alone is worth the trip)—it’s the combination of stellar service, inviting atmosphere, and a menu that celebrates Vietnam’s culinary heritage. Whether you’re new to Vietnamese food or a seasoned fan, this gem in NSW will leave you with a full stomach and a happy heart. I’m already looking forward to...
Read moreI called in yesterday as staying close by, the outdoor dining area was well set up with tables adequately spaced apart from each other with enough lighting and fans to make it comfortable.
The menu covered just about everything; however I was focused on a green vegetarian curry with rice. The curry (Red or Green) was on the menu but listed as either, prawns, chicken or pork. The waitress understood I was after vegetables only so adjusted accordingly; I was also asked what level of “spicy” I preferred. (Having just spent 6 months in Thailand I understood the importance of this question). The curry delivered was to a high standard, taste, portion size and presentation.
Overall, the ambiance, food and service delivery were excellent and very reasonably priced; large vegetarian curry with rice plus a cold Saigon beer for 124,000vnd.
I wanted to visit in the morning and test the coffee before I completed the review, the coffee was up to par with others I have tasted in the area (Bac Xiu). Breakfast I ordered a variation of the set combo, just the bagel with eggs (no meat), once again this was understood without a problem.
Breakfast plate delivered was delicious, ample portion size and presented well.
The floor staff are very attentive, friendly and are able to engage with customers concerning the menu.
Highly...
