This hotel fits in well with the Vietnamese way of life. Exploit and mislead tourists at every opportunity to take their money. The taxi drivers or rickshaw bike riders are not the only people to look out for. This hotel advertises promotions to get you to book and stay here and although they are still on their website they tell me that particular promotion has finished 3 months ago! Such a pity. All it takes is one incident, one taxi driver and then how easily you can lose interest in a place. This building is at least 15 years old and in serious need of modernisation. I wonder who decided this was 5 star quality? Maybe 5 stars in Vietnam standards. Maybe damaged chipboard furniture is 5 star quality these days! Along with the 5 star quality mould in the bathroom. Around £70 a night in a third world country in the middle of no where is a bit steep. Nobody offered to help with the luggage. Check in was slow. The room had a nice view and jacuzzi on the balcony but the air conditioning system was poor and didn't cool the room. TV had only few channels. The noise from the street is terrible. At 5.50am in the morning announcements from loud speakers and traffic noise. The pool was noisy with children the staff didn't take any notice that they were jumping into the water or that people didn't shower before the pool. Breakfast had a great selection of food however the room only had ceiling fans and was just too hot in there. Still we need to wait in the lobby at check out for your room to be checked. I guess many people who stay at 5 star hotels will steal towels! There is a Donation box at front desk for orphan child in Nha Trang. Judging by the over priced drinks in the bar if any donations are given maybe this should be done by a so called thriving 5 star hotel. The web site states a private beach with life guards. It is not. It’s a public beach with 8 umbrellas and loungers for this hotel only. They should have been available till 5.30pm but staff tell you to go at 5pm. The life guards were watching their mobile phones and the traffic instead of the swimmers. Maybe something good was on tv and they want to leave work early! Who knows! Well the reception staff didn't know. When I asked to speak to a manger I was told there was no manager, but the staff called somebody twice and I was given the offer for a drink from the bar. On the other day I asked to speak to a manger about the beach and false advertising I was told again there was no manager so I said I wanted to speak to somebody who was in charge. In the end, miraculously I managed to speak to a manager who came and said that he was in his room off duty so looks like there is only a general manger and the reception staff. Nobody in between. The manager of this hotel is obnoxious and rude and has no customer service skills. Taking into consideration that he was a westerner he lacked basic customer service and was rude telling me that they would update the website tomorrow just for me. Easyjet crew have better customer service. He acted like a 5 year old so how his staff can learn from him if he lacks basic managerial skills. I said to him it's not a 5 star hotel and the staff are lying. I said I would comment on TripAdvisor he said he would reply to it that and say I was the one being rude. So, Mr. Rauber General Manager do not bother replying to this, is not for you but to warn potential guests. A manager should listen to feedback and accept the faults in he building. But not here. Telling me he is busy and started at 5 am is not my concern. If you want to come to Nha Trang where there is absolutely nothing (Da Nang is better) look around you can get a good deal in a nearby hotels. I can't recommend a hotel who's manager is a @$%$. His attitude is "I dont care" because he knows that people will not return to this hotel because there is no need to go back to that town again as the city mainly is for group tours for Chinese and...

Read moreSNAPSHOT: Sunrise Beach Hotel and Spa is a gorgeous hotel with its colonial-inspired architecture and beautiful interior public spaces. It is around 40-60 minutes drive to or from the airport and situated directly opposite the Nha Trang beach strip towards the quieter end. As expected, rooms are clean and well-appointed. The buffet breakfast was disappointing for us unfortunately. There were not a lot of guests staying during our time there so it was quiet which we appreciated after the busyness of our previous excellent hotel, the Havana (see our other review). Sunrise reception staff were friendly, informative and very helpful. Hotel web photos are accurate. Overall, we rate Sunrise highly. It is not cheap, but we researched a very good rate, probably because it was not the high season. Looking forward to staying again in the future.||BE AWARE: (1) Make sure you arrange for transport to the hotel either in advance or by negotiation/haggling once you arrive at the airport. A reasonable price is around VND300K. A metered taxi will cost over twice as much. Yes, we got stung! (2) You will need to cross a very busy main road to access the hotel's private section of the public beach.||CRITIQUE: Our top floor seaview room had a balcony with a hot/cold water jacuzzi. Our room was not spacious, but very comfortable nevertheless. Room features included: Cable TV, safety box, mini-fridge as well as the usual complimentary tea/coffee/bottled water and chargeable snacks etc. A complimentary plate of local fruits was a nice touch. There was a combo shower/tub in the bathroom along with the usual bathroom essentials. No ceiling fans, but good AC. Wifi was strong. Our top floor room overlooked the pool and out towards the sea and beachfront strip from a side-view angle. The circular outdoor pool is surrounded by roman-style pillars, another eye-catching feature of this appealing hotel by-the-sea. No gym facilities are available at this hotel. A kid's room was a nice option for families. The hotel has two restaurants with one right on the boardwalk. There are several bars as well. Surprisingly, the buffet breakfast which looked great and had plenty of choices was just average in quality.||BEYOND THE HOTEL: The Nha Trang beach esplanade is worth exploring in both directions no matter where you stay, though we found the much wider bayfront beach in Da Nang near the White Sand Hotel of even better quality (see our WS hotel review). It's good to see that local authorities in coastal regions of Vietnam keep their streets and beaches clean and well maintained; unlike in the larger cities. We recommend an excellent (but rather pricey) seafood restaurant reasonably close to Sunrise - Hải sản Mộc quán Nha Trang. Sunrise Hotel offers easy access to plenty of local restos, tourist shopping and supermarkets either by walking or e-hail ride.||ADVICE: Research the various room types before booking. The hotel may offer free upgrades depending on room type and length of stay. We scored well. Hope you do too. It also helps to stay in Nha Trang during the non-rainy season if you are hoping for consistently clear skies...
