Hands down, this has been one of the best meals I’ve had in Nha Trang. This place’s 3.9 rating is off. It should be closer to 5-stars. Already have had two meals here and both were nothing short of outstanding. Here’s the breakdown:
Cleanliness: no issues, no questionable practices, everything is very clean, including the bathrooms.
Service: wait staff is very attentive with a good grasp of english, I’m semi-fluent in Vietnamese but didn’t have issues ordering in both languages. They don’t try to up-sell you at all, and clearly explain the cost per kilo, which you should always ask before ordering.
Menu: comprehensive seafood menu with many local options, fried rice, and cha gio (fried spring rolls, must order) ... English-translated version as well
Food: this is where it’s amazing. The shellfish is fresh (tanks with live products - not just plastic buckets, though they have those too). Ordered a combo of seafood grilled with garlic, Hong Kong style, and tamarind flavored sauces. All three were amazing, well seasoned and perfectly cooked for every dish. Make sure to order the garlic water spinach (morning glory) as well, to cut the richness of seafood. The tiger prawns are meaty but delicate and paired with the Hong Kong style make an outstanding combo. Will be coming back for a third meal before leaving Nha Trang, it’s really that good for the waterfront street.
Last note - dinner with multiple courses and beer, has come out to 1.25M - 2.91M VND ... cash only, but so not a rip off considering quantity, quality and types of shellfish we ordered. Yes the wet naps and the peanuts are an inconsequential charge but that’s common practice in the country, so use if you can’t afford the $0.30USD, don’t use it. Get off the strip and make your...
Read moreI was only in Nha Trang for a short time, and knowing that the place is gracious for its seafood I really wanted to find the right place as I only had time to try one restaurant while I was here. I had short listed a few, but in the end opted for Hanh Xuan as it was usually the one locals kept recommending. The restaurant is located by the river, with a nice view. There are 6 seafood restaurants next to each other, but this one was the biggest and the busiest. That alone made it the easy choice. The restaurant was full of locals, there weren't any tourists. The staff don't speak much English, but do their best to provide the best service. The menu is in English, Chinese and Russian so ordering shouldn't be a problem for tourists. As we were with my wife's family, we had a couple of big catch up celebrations to make up for so we went all out. We ordered 12 dishes for the 6 of us... Which included a 1.6kg grouper. All the dishes were fantastic and seasoned very well, I didn't have any dish that I thought was bland. Everything was super fresh, and only alive moments before on our table. We left so stuffed, and to be honest I was surprised we finished all the food (apart from some left over seafood fried rice). We were well and truly stuffed. My wife and I debated how much the final bill would be. I had thought in the region of 5 million VND (£165 or £27.5pp), which wouldn't have been unreasonable considering the volume and quality of the food. I was very surprised when the bill came in below 3.5 million VND (£115 or £19pp). It is an insanely reasonable amount, considering a large fish and chips and a drink would set you back the same amount in London. Highly...
Read moreCame here on the recommendation of the hotel staff at Sheraton, and what a good recommendation it was! For less than $90USD we got a bunch of food that were prepared well and authentic. Considering we saw the seafood alive before it was prepared, I can definitely say the ingredients were fresh! The English skills of the staff was definitely limited, but we were able to select the seafood and preparation method well enough. They had a price chart of the cost of the seafood, albeit in Vietnamese, so we were able to use it to figure out pricing when selecting our seafood. We selected razor clams, some other clams, two kinds of shrimp, and a pomfret fish. In addition, we got two vegetable dishes and a seafood fried rice. The only mediocre dish was one of the vegetable dishes, which was just a plate of streamed vegetables. The stir fried water spinach was excellent. The had the usual limited selection of only lager beers but I suppose that was to be expected in this part of the world. It was pouring rain when we left and we greatly appreciated a staff member flagging down a taxi for us 👍🏼. This place is right across the bridge on the other side of the river, so there is a good view while dining. Able-bodied people can definitely walk to this place and save...
