5 star service, 4 star food…
The order:
• ‘Big Boy Ribeye’ served with garlic mashed potato & veg • French Onion Soup
Firstly, the service here is outstanding. You’re greeted at the door by a warm and friendly male who assists with bike parking and holds the door for you etc. The waiting staff are also very prompt with their queues and the food came out rather quickly without issue. The place itself is also lovely, we dined upstairs in the outdoor seating area which was decorated with potted plants and had good Western music. We were extremely satisfied with the level of attention by there staff, as once again upstairs we were met by another person holding the door who remained present and was at hand.
The soup was a decent attempt at an authentic French onion soup; properly caramelised onions and a generous layer of cheese on top. The only issue was that Mozzarella was the cheese of choice. Wasn’t expecting a Vietnamese restaurant to have Gruyère cheese, but the mildness of the mozzarella and stringiness did result in a block of cheese which came separate away from the soup when eating. Nonetheless, it was tasty and a nice treat as it isn’t served widely in Vietnam.
The steak was my partner’s meal - it was a huge steak which was nice. It was also cooked beautifully and the garlic / rosemary butter (you can choose from a few) was a great touch. Veggies could have been better in terms of roasting and selection. There was broccoli, carrots & fresh cherry tomatoes. I feel the dish would have benefitted from either a proper grilled tomato or none at all personally. Also, a whole clove of raw garlic accompanied the steak which was a slightly odd addition as it wasn’t exactly ready to eat. To me, this seemed like a wasteful way of adding a garnish as I’m sure 99% if not all must be returned to the kitchen the way they came out (see photo). These are knit picking comments, but the steak cost around 23GBP so I guess the standard is set rather high when you can dine for a quarter of the price in many other eateries.
Overall, we would return. The service was perfect and the food tasty regardless. Thank you very much. Lastly, the palette cleansing mini-cocktail that is provided free of charge after dining is a great...
Read moreI intend not to give any reviews, but the way the owner replied my partner's below review was very bad, hence why I need to put my review here. We did complain the beef was tough on that night, but your "slow" waiter only smile then walked away without doing anything. Just like he get used to all those complaints from other customers. We invited customer there for dinner, and how can you make any problem there to mess up ur dinner with customer? Have you ever done that b4? Even our customer also say the steak were tough, she could not finished the whole plate. You can check camera easily. The owner used the words "we finished the WHOLE MEAL", just like we really enjoy it and everything were good, and all those reviews are fake. Each steak cost 795k, are you expecting us just leave the whole plate there without eating anything before writing any reviews here? He says he was the one personally cook all steaks, he is too proud of himself hence why he never admit his bad work if any problem. I read all the old reviews, same issue of tough steaks, and same reply from the owner that "he would make it again.,he would fix it immediately if we tell him..blah blah.." same concept, i wonder if he just copy/paste al his replies.
I EDIT MY REVIEW because I want to response on what the owner replied me from my above review. Your waiter is not that smart or care about customers enough to come to our table TWICE as what you replied my partner's below review. Your waiter NEVER COME to our table to ask if our food were ok or not. All his works were just bring food to the table, then clean up the table after the customers leave. After we told the waiter that the steak was tough, he just tried to smile politely, then walked away. If you don't want customers to leave the complaints online, TRAIN YOUR WAITERS HOW TO SOLVE THE ISSUE FIRST BEFORE YOU PUT ALL YOUR BLAMES ON CUSTOMERS. We did look for you to complain about the steak that night, but the staff there told us you left. and we did leave our complaints to your staff. Leaving an online review is the correct way to spread our feedback to you directly, and also to warn to other customers to not have the...
Read moreWhy did we wait so long to eat here? We'd been waiting for a special occasion after hearing everyone we know rave about the food – their steak, in particular. It was the perfect choice to celebrate our 14th anniversary, and hubs and I will be inventing many more special occasions to come back and eat here for sure! (14 years and 1 month, 14 years and 2 months....) The prices are on point for the quality and quantity of food, and if you're on a bit of a budget, there are plenty of options (wings, Caesar salad, burgers) that will keep you within range. Ambiance is lovely – low lit but not so much that you can't see your food, and the service was impeccable. Attentive without being overbearing. For those interested, we ordered some wings and a Caesar salad to start. Had heard so much about the wings, and they lived up to the hype. Forced ourselves to eat just one each and pack the rest up for leftovers so we wouldn't spoil the main dish, but will definitely be back for wing night! The caesar salad was one of the top caesars I've had in my life. It's a proper caesar, with a house-made dressing using oil, egg yolk, and anchovies. Fans of the creamy-style bottled dressing they call caesar may be disappointed, but if you're looking for the real deal, look no further. Since it was our anniversary, we splurged and ordered the surf n turf - 300g of Argentinian rib-eye, garlic shrimp, and scallops in an herb compound butter (you can choose from a variety of compound butters). It could have easily fed 3, especially with the sides that come alongside. The steak was cooked perfectly (they have photos and internal temperatures displayed so you know exactly what you'll get) and was so flavorful and tender, which has been hard to...
