1990 Restaurant — Restaurant in Ninh Bình Province

I came across this place as I went to Nature's Spa next door and the sign mentioned vegan so I looked at reviews on here and they seemed pretty good so I thought I would try it.

My husband and I were very disappointed. I came here because of the variety of vegan and vegetarian options.

It's run down, needs a deep clean, food was slow and didn't come all together. Tables and chairs need a good clean.

It's a family run business so young kids about and some of the older kids serve you. This wasn't an issue per say but more for reference.

My husband had the Banh Mi and he found it oily which overpowered all the other flavours.

I had Vegan options, some of it was nice while other bits were ok. Rice doesn't come with meal so you need to order this. I wanted brown rice but they didn't have this in stock.

Prices are cheap but I wouldn't recommend it because of this.

I enjoyed an iced ginger tea which I would recommend.

We loved this place so much we went twice. The tofu pho was a highlight. It is a family-run restaurant so outside of school times, the children often take orders and deliver food with a smile, adding to the experience. They do this alongside doing their school work - very impressive! Their parents do the cooking and we were very impressed both times we went. Prices are cheap/on par with the rest of the area. We read reviews saying the place was dirty. The eating area was spotless both times we went. We did not use the toilet but are used to Vietnamese toilets being of different standards to the West. Overall, we would go back...

So far we have spent 4 days in Hanoi and 4 in Ninh Binh… The food we ate at 1990 was not only the most reasonably priced but certainly the most tasty of all of the food eaten in Vietnam so far! Best Banh Mi so far (we have eaten quite a few!), Best Spring rolls so far! And the best morning glory I have ever tasted (wok fried greens with garlic)!

Left here wishing we had found it a few days before - easily the best place to eat in Ninh Binh and Tam Coc.

I actually felt bad for how little they charged...
