Let me first say, the service was excellent- some of the best we’ve had in Vietnam. Unfortunately, the good stuff ends there. Not sure how this place has gotten so many 5star reviews, but our experience with the food was quite disappointing. The spring rolls and stir-fried chicken with vegetables were over-black-peppered, the white rice was hard/dry. The pork pho was decent. The coconut coffee tasted weird, like some chemicals or something processed was in it? Compared to the coconut coffee from Cong Cafe and other places it pales in comparison. Couldn’t stomach to finish it. Maybe it was an off-night, maybe my PNW tastebuds are just hella sensitive, but this food was some of the lowest we had while traveling through the country. I hate to be harsh, and, I think it’s good to call out when something is lacking. Our service really was excellent, but compared to the food we had in Sa Pa, Hanoi, and especially Hoi An (the best food of our entire trip), this was a bummer meal to end...
Read moreWe got food poisoning! We visited here two weeks ago based on all the good reviews and it being a nice-looking restaurant. We saw it was very busy one night so decided to go the next night which was much quieter. When we sat down we found the service very abrupt, as we were asked if we were ready to order yet less than a minute after being given the menu. Once we received our food, my chicken with lemongrass and chilli tasted very different to the many others I've tried and unfortunately I now know that the chicken gave me food poisoning the next day. The texture in the dish was unusual but I put it down to being fattier/chicken thigh pieces but clearly something was wrong and resulted in a horrible bout of illness. My partner had beef morning glory but also tried my dish and had body aches and stomach cramps the...
Read moreI was disappointed with my experience here I think particularly after reading such raving reviews. If I could give a half star I’d give this place a 3.5. The menu was limited. We had the fried spring rolls (after they messed up our tofu and banana flower order using up the last of the banana flower), chicken pho and beef and garlic morning glory. The food was good, not great. Everyone said the portions were huge, but I thought they were pretty standard and smaller than many other places we’ve been to. While it wasn’t bad, it was honestly probably one of my least favorite restaurants in Vietnam out of a dozen. Overall, I thought it was exceptionally average. If your time here is limited, I’d skip this place and go to Thao Beo or Hoang Vietnamese...
