We didn't come to Ninh Binh area (and specifically the small countryside village of Tam Coc) expecting to eat anything other than traditional Vietnamese food. However, the traditional Vietnamese village vibe has been utterly annihilated and instead you are faced with 'pubs' promoting cocktail bucket happy hours and shisha sessions, more pizza places than you'd find in the average city and 5 (count em!) indian restaurants catering to the shirtless barista-bearded tourists. What remains of Vietnamese culture in the village is of dubious quality, so having given up on the Vietnamese food on offer in Tam Coc after two disappointing meals, we came here and had surprisingly delicious curries, steamed rice and naan. The staple dishes are all available and the vindaloo, while a little mild for my taste, was well made and contained succulent chunks of meat which melted in my mouth. We chatted with one of the all-Vietnamese staff and learned that although they dont get too many Indian customers, they'd read that the favourite food of all western people is curry so that is why they decided to make their restaurant an Indian one. We noticed that the only two sets of indian visitors we'd seen in Tam Coc came in and ordered food while we were eating, and the restaurant was heaving with western tourists, more than any other place we'd seen in Tam Coc, by the time we finished our meal. I love it when huge swathes of the human race behave so predictably and can be reduced in such a stereotypical fashion! Be sure to check out all the comments from tourists who were only in Vietnam for a week in total but claim to be "needing a break" from...
Read moreFood is delicious and the owner and staff are very friendly a very helpful! On November, 2022. I was ridding a motorbiking passing through Tom Coc, this restaurant had caught my eye as I was ridding by; so, I turned around and rode the motorbike to the front of the restaurant. Since this is my first time ridding a motorbike again since 20 years ago; therefore, I was still trying to park it properly; the owner saw me and came out to help me to parked the motorbike. I went inside the restaurant and had enjoyed a very delicious Indian lunch. After I paid for my lunch, I came out the restaurant and try to start my motorbike so that I can continue to my next attractions; But the motorbike did not start; once again, the owner came out and tried to help me to start the motorbike; after few attempted, the motorbike will not start; the owner invited me back to the restaurant and offer me a cup of water; at the same time, the owner asked one of the local lady to help me to make calls to the rental shop. The lady even went outside with me when the rental shop sent someone to see the motorbike; and she help me to explained the problems that I was having with this motorbike. Big thank you to the owner and your staff for the kindness and help! I will definitely go back to enjoy your delicious food next time I visit Vietnam again! I will highly recommend this restaurant for their delicious food and...
Read moreBunch of indian vegetarians ( the most picky group giving more importance to food that the sights) were delighted with the taste and spread at curry king. Tried almost all the items on the menu and highly recommend 1. Dal tadka 2. Channa masala 3) Aloo Chat 4) Samosa ( not typically selected by traveling indians but we made that quantum leap and ordered) 5) masala papad. The curries are sooper and thanks Vishal from utharakhand who is the chef there, the tastes are not far from how u would get in Delhi). Don't ever miss the Baingan Bhartha - outstanding stuff. Unfortunately given the use of margarine or the quality of the paneer made here, the dal makhani, panner butter masala don't really pass muster. The size of the Naan is generous.
Overall an Indian gem hidden in tam coc and u can't go wrong with ur choice. Of course the sights in tam coc are amazing and don't forget to do the galaxy grottos ( thien Ha) as that experience stands out....
