DO NOT EAT HERE! After reading reviews about this place being authentic Vietnamese we were not bothered about the drab exterior, as this can often be a good indication of the food quality, and sat at a table.
Again undeturbed by not being given menus, I went inside to ask. We ordered the pork with onions, grilled fish w/steamed rice and fried vegetables.
The 'grilled' fish with rice arrived, it was battered deep fried fish pieces that had clearly been made earlier in the day and warmed up on the grill, it was dry, tasteless and inedible. Then the fried vegetables arrived, it was just the standard Vietnamese (garlic) morning glory... But was stone cold.. more left overs? Finally the pork, ok it was the best of a bad bunch, but was all onions and no pork, and little flavour by Vietnamese standards.
We had indicated that the fish was inedible, but it still came on the bill, which we politely cross off and refused to pay, the waiter wrote down a new figure with half of the fish price removed, we said no and rewrote a new figure with the fish completely removed, he didn't bat an eyelid and said ok.
This wasn't just a case of average food, it was a case of dishonestly and perhaps being treated differently because we were tourists. Oh we were over charged for the 2 beers...
Read moreDON'T STAY HERE, THE OWNER IS A CREEP! We went here for dinner last month. The restaurant was empty. Just the owner was there watching something on his TV which is not visible from the outside. When we entered, we saw that the TV actually showed real-time CCTV material from inside a twin bedroom. The owner immediately switched to a TV channel, then put away the remote control. Since the place is renting out rooms we think it is more than likely there are cameras in the rooms. Apparently the owner sits and watches the guests in the evening. We decided to have food there anyway. While eating, the owner sat down right behind us continuously staring at my girlfriend. He made both of us feel incredibly uncomfortable. Long story short: DON'T STAY HERE, THE...
Read moreI looked at the reviews after coming here and was really surprised at the many one-star reviews; however, most of them sound fairly unbiased, so I guess I was just lucky. What I will say is that I don't think the goat is ridiculously priced (at around 120,000, if I remember); perhaps some people are used to everything being 20, 30 or 40 thousand from 'local' restaurants, but that really only applies to Vietnamese fast food. The grilled goat meat I had was pretty tasty, not the best dish ever but a solid 7/10. Wrapped up in rice paper with banana and pineapple and dipped in peanut and soy sauce, it was pretty damn good. But do refuse the owner if he tries to push extra dishes on you like rice or vegetables and you...
