This is a very, very late review that I meant to write several months ago. The experience was good that it's hard to forget. Went to a different "De quan" the night before, I and my wife still craved more "thit de" so we decided to go to Dung Pho Nui. We stayed in a homestay about 10 minutes from DPN and we rode by DPN's sign so many times. The road leading to DPN was quite rough. The surface was all broken and pot holes were everywhere. But we braved the road and went straight to DPN. The restaurant sits next to the mountain so the rock wall was quite interesting to see. We sat down and... waited. We got the menu and browsed intensively. Then the awkward moment happened. A waiter with tatoos and buzz cut hair walked up to us and greeted us, "chao anh chi, anh chi muon dung gi a?" Very formal, nice. We wanted the "Lau de" since we hadn't tried it yet in Ninh Binh... and the waiter just said "No!" Out lout. I looked at my wife, then at him and was quite shocked. "Whuttt?" Then he continued "Anh chi muon nghe y kien cua em ko a? Mon day ko ngon dau.", "Tu so 1 den so 8, chon 1 mon, roi tu so 9 den 13 chon 1 mon. 2 mon du an roi, ko can goi them." Ohhhh! Okay... his straight face and the gang-like tats made that conversation so hilarious. His recommendation was spot on and the food was great. I love "canh cua rau day" when I was a kid and he mentioned his "canh cua" is top notch and brought out a small bowl for me to try. It tasted like my grandma's soup. It took me back to the good old days. When he asked about the soup, I complemented the soup "Giong het ba ngoai nau!", he just chuckled and said "sao giong duoc, phai ngon hon chu. Oi gioi!" Lol! He also gave us the large porridge instead of a small one. So nice! Great food! Great people! What not to love? If there will be a chance to travel back to Ninh Binh, I'll definitely...
Read moreI just got back from Dung Pho Nui and I need to write a review for them right away because of their excellent service. The restaurant specializes in goats which is a delicacy of Ninh Binh. I ordered the roasted goat dish and it was cooked perfectly. The goats don’t have the gamey taste and the flavor is very well balanced. Prices is very reasonable even though goat is expensive for sure. I came by myself and the owner is very helpful. He doesn’t try to sell me anything rather than just wants me to have a nice experience and enjoy the food without overstuffing myself. He even let me try other dishes for free. He and his crew was having dinner and he invited me over to have dinner with them. This is really my first time to experience the hospitality like this. He let me try other food the family was eating and even gave me discount for my dishes. Everyone here is super friendly and is down to earth people. If you need to exchange money, you can exchange money from the owner. Beside goats, they also have chicken dishes. The food is great and service is top notch. They treat you like a family and friends here. Highly...
Read moreWe ordered two dishes during our visit and were thoroughly impressed. The first was Dê Áp Cháo a beautifully pan-fried goat dish served with rice paper, mint, fig leaves, pineapple, and what I believe were pears. The experience of assembling our own fresh rolls made it both interactive and enjoyable. The flavors were bright and well-balanced, with a great contrast in textures crisp, tender, and refreshing all at once. Truly delicious.
The second dish, Dê Nướng Viên, featured grilled goat meat cut into perfect squares. It was expertly cooked juicy, flavorful, and beautifully charred on the outside without being overdone.
What really elevated the experience was the service. The host was exceptionally honest, attentive, and helpful, even guiding us through our order with thoughtful recommendations. To top it off, we were seated immediately with no wait time. All in all, a memorable meal both in flavor and...
