I have eaten at many restaurants in the area, and Mai Jo is by far the best. It's a family business, Mai being Vietnamese and Jo Portuguese. Their cooks and waitresses are excellent at their job, and are all treated as part of the family.
When they serve fish, it is always freshly bought in the market that morning, unlike other places, where it has usually been kept in the freezer for several days or longer. What they don't cook for their customers, they eat themselves. To be sure of eating what you want, you can order a particular dish, such as grilled whole fish, the day before, knowing that it will be bought in the market the next morning (live), then prepared and cooked for you that day.
All the dishes my friend and I have eaten at Mai Jo, whether ordered in advance or chosen from the menu on the day, were fresh and delicious, including vegetarian/vegan dishes, which are also their speciality, and desserts of crème caramel and crème brulée.
Prices are extremely reasonable, if very slightly more expensive than some other restaurants in the village. But the food is so much better.
We were extremely well looked after each time we ate here, and will definitely be regular customers on our next visit...

I pestered my husband literally to go there cause they serve pancakes. When I saw the menu, I found it expensive and it is little bit on the higher side.
But, what will not disappoint you is the quantity of the serving and the TASTE.
Food was amazing. Like I enjoyed every bite of my meal. We ordered stuffed squid and spaghetti carbonara (local Vietnamese food and an Italian cuisine), literally both were a delight.
SO A MUST GO AT LEAST ONCE, WHEN YOU COME TO ONG LONG BEACH PHU QUOC
You will see the restaurant almost full day and night It's the very first restaurant on that road so you are not going to miss it
Service is nice and staff can speak good English. Only since the restaurant is rectangular shape, it's difficult to call them, when needed. Cause they are at one corner and you are at the other.
The ambience is very ok and since it's just at the start of the road it's a little noisy. Also compared to the price the ambience could have been better.

So glad we decided to come here. What caught our eye was the interesting dishes as opposed to the run of the mill menu of every other place. The service is amazing and the team was so helpful in recommendations and helping us pick the right thing. Had a lovely chat with the lady who runs it as well.
We had clams in a butter garlic wine sauce. Delicious clams and even better sauce. It was served with some bread to mop up the delicious sauce.
For the main, we had a super interesting minced beef dish which had some betel leaves that they grow in their garden - simple and very satisfying with a unique flavour.
To wash all this down we had a beautiful green wine from Portugal. Something we hadn’t seen before in Vietnam.
For dessert, you have to get the flan with the Vietnamese coffee and crushed ice. One of the better flans we have had with a perfect amount of sweetness.
All in all a wonderful meal with great service and a much needed break from traditional...
