Let's be honest about what this place is--it's for tourists not travelers. To that end it will be a welcome pitstop for foreigners seeking a safe, relatively clean place to eat a wide selection of hawker stalls with some (not all) plausibly authentic cuisines in a resort bar style environment... To facilitate this process, all the menus are printed in English and prices are clear, while the vendors all speak good to passable English.
On the other hand, travelers that sojourn to discover south east Asia will be seeking the authentic regional dishes and flavors that make each cuisine so delicious, not making a beeline to the comfort of ordering from a picture of butter chicken, Tikka masala, or pepperoni pizza.
Food is rated at 4 stars for variety alone, as the actual quality is closer to 3 stars... For example, a green chicken curry that was so thin I would swear it was actually a soup, bacon that was ordered extra crispy in the full English and came in a heap of every doneness except crisp, and a flat white that was barely luke warm in temp.
Service scores 5 for general upkeep of the food court, the staff that are consistently maintaining the facilities, busing tables, etc.
The atmosphere is inauthentic to Vietnam, and feels like a transplant from another culture...I have been to many food courts in the region, and this is nothing like them, both good and bad... It has a bar atmosphere at night, and is very loud and choking in cigarette smoke...
Finally, despite the reservations mentioned, kudos should be given to the owner who is brave enough to be making a go of it in mui ne .. As a transplant, he has invested a lot of money into building something here that provides jobs and opportunities for locals, and an obvious service for tourists. I love that he fiercely defends the vendors he has built relationships with, and am sorry to hear that some have not justified his trust and support in return. Having met him, he strikes me as a genuinely...
Read moreWe came to eat here 3 times whilst visiting Mui Ne. The service, food and drink was all amazing. The tacos from the Mexican stand were brilliant and very reasonably priced. We also tried food from the tapas stand (a seafood paella), the burger hut, the pizza stand, and the hot stone. All the food was brilliant. The pizza was the best we’ve had in two months travelling South East Asia. The hot sone was a fun idea too! I’ve attached pictures. My partner also has a peanut allergy, which every stall catered to.
The bar menu is extensive with a large list of wines, which were all reasonably priced and some of the cheapest imported wines we’ve seen in Asia. Both imported red and white wines, as well as the beers were great.
I was surprised to see reviews saying the venue to be dirty, as we found it to be spotless. Staff come and clear your plates and empty glasses away very quickly- which we liked!
The only thing I can fault was the ambiguity in the closing times for some of the food stalls. As online the closing time states 11pm, but we found some stalls stopped serving food at 9pm (this was on a Friday night). Again not a massive issue, just make sure you arrive in the early evening to avoid any disappointment! Also you must pay for the pool table (20,000 for 30 mins) AND leave a deposit (they said this could be a pair of keys or an item). We haven’t encountered this at all in Asia, but again not a massive issue and it’s understandable! I suppose it stops people from hogging the table for too long!
Judging by some of the inconsistency in the reviews, your experience here will depend on your personal likes and interests/ the types of food stalls you visit/ which wines you buy. We personally thought there was something for everyone and...
Read moreWe were lucky enough to be staying pretty much across from Dong vui and went there 5 times in our three days!! There is plenty of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner and with its chilled vibe, good food and very reasonable prices (£1 beer) we didn’t want to go anywhere else. We introduced it to friends on two occasions and they loved it too!
The staff were very friendly and made sure you were happy. I ordered a veggie banh xeo on the first day, when it arrived we were unsure if it had meat in it but she reassured us and even asked the manager to explain this and make sure we understood with the language barrier. I really appreciated this and it is the only place so far that I have eaten fake meat rather than just tofu so great for veggies. I would say if I were to order again I would ask for it to be extra crispy as I found it slightly doughy. My friend later got the paella from here and loved it.
My boyfriend and I ordered from the Indian two nights in a row because it was so delicious. I’m not usually one to rave about an Indian curry but this really was the best I’d tasted.
We came for breakfast twice and I was impressed with the variety. I opted for the op la twice and the eggs were cooked to perfection.
I only wish we were staying longer so that we could have tried more of the food....
