A very weird experience indeed at the corner cafe. We got to the place for dinner n it was really difficult to find parking but we eventually managed to park the 3 vehicles we had. On our way in, we noticed a very cool motorcycle n commented on it. As soon as we entered the restaurant we noticed the driver who was sitting and had motorcycle gear on the table n we set on the table next to him.
As usual we started with ordering our starters, they told us that there were no menus in the restaurant and we had to scan a barcode in order to download the menu, this was new but we were ok with it because we were a group of tech savvy people. We ordered mainly soup, chicken livers and chicken wings for starters coz most of their dishes were not available. For main dishes people ordered T-bone steak with rice and chips; prawns, pizza, salads etc again because of the limited available options. The food took foooooorever to come. We were just good company otherwise we would have left the place. I only captured a few photos because was too hungry to take any after waiting for long. Look, the food was just sooo delicious 😋 but definitely not worth the long wait. During the wait time, we asked to see the manager n they said he had already left.
After having our delicious meal, they brought the bill and as usual I personally checked it to see if everything tallied and i noticed 2 items that i enquired about, the first item they explained that the prices on the menu we had downloaded were not up to date… imagine if such happens when you are eating on a tight budget according to menu prices. The second item was written “pizza addition: cheese which we did not understand because no-one had ordered extra cheese n the price for this ‘pizza addition’ was even almost double the price of the pizza itself. The cost of the pizza according to their menu was K110 which tallied with the pizza on the bill. Where did the pizza addition of K210 come from??? The waiter could not explain it and said unfortunately the manager was the only person who could make any changes to the bill but he had already left so he could not help us. Nway i was too tired to argue n i paid for the bill and guess what… as the waiter was going back he went to the guy with the motorcycle gear who had been sitting next to us the whole time n started telling him our story.
As we were leaving one of the guys we were with went to ask the waiter why he was sharing our issues with another client and it turns out… Motorcycle guy is the manager!! And he had been sitting there the whole time hearing everything going on and ignoring us whilst acting like a customer. He apologized to one of our guys for such behavior. As for me I was too tired 😴 to even care.
If you decide to go to this place, check your bill n be prepared to wait for a loong time. I should also add that this was not my first time at this place and previously the service was actually great and thats why we went there with the whole clan only to get such a horrible experience! I went to the corner cafe with a friend of mine to grab a meal. As we were waiting for our meal we saw the chefs and one of the floor managers touching a pizza they were preparing , putting their fingers in their mouth and back on the pizza . I called my waiter so that they could call the manager and I could ask what was going on.
The same lady that was putting her hands in the food , went over to the manager (who I guess she’s very friendly with) and started explaining something to her while pointing at my table .
The manger , a young lady, then came to my table. It’s important for me to mention she didn’t even ask me what the problem was , all she said is that I should not be worried about what’s happening if it was not my food (Apparently that food wasn’t for a client) she said she understood that I was worried but she’d expect me to worry if it was my food .
However, as a customer , I am allowed to be concerned if I see such behavior being exhibited by staff especially if I’m considering ordering food from the same kitchen!
I don’t know if they expected me to watch them mishandle the food right before I order my own.
Anyway, nonetheless, confronting a customer and not being apologetic when your staff were clearly in the wrong is unprofessional. Especially if we are paying...
Read moreA great coffee, but as a vegetarian the menu was disappointing. There was no physical menu, the QR was not working so we had to borrow a personal waitress’ phone to search the menu. The wifi was not working and I had considered attending for lunch for work calls. I asked if I could have the chicken halloumi wrap without the chicken. It’s always disappointing when the bill comes and you are charged the full amount when I believe meat is where costs lie. I have been traveling for 4 months now and Zambia is so poor on customer service. It’s the small details that encourage you to return. Instead I am met with 170k for a salad wrap because ‘there is no code to remove chicken’ please we are in 2023. We spent a while choosing only to chose something not available that day, Im unsure why this isn’t communicated before you are given the menu. 2 items not included on the bill so just randomly get added as I pay.
I would love places like this to take note of small details, to make you feel like they welcome meeting your needs and recognize customer care. Not sure...
