Beautiful gardens especially in Spring when almost everything is in flower. Within the 13 hectare you'll discover an extensive collection of water-wise plants from Australia and South Africa. There are many trails to wander, a gazebo and a number of seats and picnic tables. If lucky, you may even spot a few turtles in the large lake in the centre of the gardens.
There are toilets andan amazing playground too. These gardens are wheelchair friendly. They open every day from 8.30am, however closing time varies depending on the season: June to August 4pm; September, April and May 5pm; October to March 7pm. There is a bus stop near the entrance as well as parking for about 50 vehicles (one way in and out). Note that pets, drones, bbqs, ball throwing swimming, smoking or vainglorious are all prohibited within the park. The location is super convenient - close to the centre of Blackwood which offers a huge array of cafes and...
Read moreWow! Such beautiful gardens filled with many varieties of flowers and trees. We have driven past here many times and today we decided to stop and take a look. I was so surprised to see how big it is. Was lovely to see several families of Ducks & ducklings. Nice seeing the turtles and hearing the frogs. There was a singing kookaburra which we couldn’t spot but could hear it. Loved all the spring colours. Lots of signage along the paths detailing the names of plants/flowers and where they’re from. We walked 6 km within the gardens. There are many paths all weaving into one another. Lots of benches situated around the park. Toilets located within the park. Car parking available. A really cool playground for kids to play and lots of picnic areas with sheltered tables to sit and eat at. Best part is that it’s free! Very...
Read moreLiving in the south of Adelaide means driving to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens is quite a trek, so my family and I like to come here for a walk around once in a while.
It's nice and peaceful and I've never seen it overly crowded. It'd be great to take a picnic, although despite the fact there's a fair amount of grassed areas for the size of the place, a lot of it's on a gentle slope which would make picnicking on the grass a bit tricky. There are gazebos scattered about the gardens though as an alternative.
The only negatives I'd give the place is that with all the ducks and birds (particularly around the lake) around there's a lot of poop on the ground so you have to be a bit careful about where you sit, and the toilets don't always have soap in...
