The elderly woman who served me this morning, displayed some of the rudest customer service that I've experienced in a very long time.
Whilst selecting a few loaves from the racks, I was asked if I was local, and then when I said that I'd travelled from Woodcroft this morning, the response was "a bit of a drive then". Considering that many in SA commute to work for 40 minutes and up to an hour, a 20 minute drive at maximum to your bakery would technically be "not that far then".
I then asked if they had any olive loaves and was advised that they didn't, I then mentioned that I was aware that they only made certain loaves on certain days, to which the eldery woman offered to find out for me, to which I replied that I'd just look it up online later because I was aware that this information was available there, and she acknowledged this by mentioning their website, whilst looking at me like I was a rude customer for not accepting her offer to find out for me, when I'd already thanked her just prior for offering to provide the information, even though I'd decided to decline her offer.
Then, at the point of paying for the 3 loaves that I'd selected, she brought up a second time, rehashing with me if I'd like to find out when they make their olive bread, she volunteered that she could ask the baker when I'd made it clear that it wasn't important to me to know, meanwhile the younger staff member then says to me that they stock it on a Friday and Saturday, also now sporting a look on her face that suggested that I'd been rude (after advising me after I'd been standing at the counter after walking in and after a wait whilst no one was in front of me, that she'd be with me in a minute as she was serving a cup of coffee to a customer, which I had no problem with), then proceeding to after having served said coffee, still not in any hurry whatsoever to serve me.
The rudness was on your part today by the customer service staff, not I.
I don't care if the bread is cheap from here considering its quality, it's not cheap enough considering the apparent attitude tax.
I very nearly didn't bother spending such energy writing a negative review and about a bakery no less, but the customer service...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWonderful bread out of a wood fired oven. Probably only one of few bakeries using a wood fired oven to bake their bread in Adelaide metro area. I love bread baked in a wood fired oven and am very glad to find this fantastic place in metro area. (I know few bakeries using a wood fired oven in country or rural area) If you once try wood fired bread, you'll never go back! Crusty outside, but soft and moist inside with full of flavour. To me, it is worth to drive half an hour from my home to Hearth Bakery to get only 1~2 loaf of bread. Most of their bread is organic and price is very reasonable where it is organic. My favourite is Black Rice and Sesame Sourdough. They don't have tens of different types of bread to display unlike Bakers Delight, but as you can see from the wall, 'Simplicity is the ultimate Sophistication'. Probably the best bakery in the area or even anywhere near Adelaide. It would be great if I can find Ciabatta from their bread rack (they may have, but I've never...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNo other bread that I have experienced seems as nutritious and as fresh and as good quality (organic and less processed and more whole ingredients) and beautiful to eat. I savour every bite. It exceeds my expectations. A deceptive outer humble exterior containing beautiful staff and hearth within. I travel far (for an Adelaidean lol) just to get their special loaves and when I'm there I pain to decide which to choose because they are all amazing! It's hard to leave without a fresh warm from the oven cinnamon scroll .....they are my weaknes!. BTW, no plastics, either. Their produce is wrapped in paper, and this I value. Thank you to the clever people who make Hearth, the beautiful food, and...
