I take my class to visit the Ballina Naval and Maritime Museum to support our HSIE work at school. Although they are very young(5-7 years), they find so much suitable for them. The beautiful visual effects, the interactive displays. the mighty las Balsa raft and the very helpful band of volunteers provide a recipe for success. It is like entering another universe for children who rarely get to see anything of its ilk in their daily lives. I cannot give enough accolades to all those responsible for any and every part of it.

I took my Brisbane grandchildren to visit 2 years ago. They were astonished to see many ship models which had been made by their Brisbane neighbour! In May I am planning to take my new bunch of budding historians to visit. They will be preparing for their visit from the beginning of term 2. Can't wait. Many, many thanks - you are legends. Jill Duff Casino Christian School 13.06.2014 My class of 15 went to the museum on Friday, 13.06.2014, and had a wonderful time. They felt very free to ask for help in finding all the items pictured on their 'find it' sheet (given out from the front desk). Glad to see everything is all in order after the roof was replaced last month. We will spend the next 2 weeks talking about what we learnt from our visit, and reviewing our photos. Thank you everyone. We loved the opportunity to peek into the past. Our bus driver had not been there before and was very impressed too. He is planning to take his daughter now. Keep up the great job. Jill Duff Casino...

Maritime museum hasn't changed in what it has to offer very much of late, although they have had extensive remodelling of their building and entrance. Accessible for wheelchairs with rest rooms also. I did start this review by saying it hasn't changed in what it has to look at BUT........ Whenever I pop in I always find something that grabs my attention which I don't remember it doing the previous time( could be my brain injury?? Or just getting old, lmao) Staff are always helpful and if you have a question there is almost always someone on duty there that is happy to expand on anything you see or ask about. Please make a point of giving a donation when you go. If we lose this museum due to our poor donation skills it will be...

A pleasant place to explore. It’s not a large museum, but it makes up for that with well-organized exhibits and detailed descriptions of the artifacts.

I was particularly impressed with the section on the Las Balsas expedition, which I hadn’t heard of before. The history of Ballina’s naval involvement is highlighted throughout, and the museum does a good job of presenting it in an accessible way. The staff was approachable and knowledgeable, willing to explain certain items in more detail. While it’s not a place you’d spend hours in, it’s worth a visit if you’re in the area. The admission fee is reasonable, and it’s a good educational stop for families and history...

Beautiful museum pretty interesting to know that people sailed from Ecuador to Australia on rafts and they also apparently had 300 model boats (I'm not actually sure because I didn't count them) but I took about 257 photos of things in the museum. You can learn to tie knots and they also have a steering wheel with a fog horn ( the fog horn is very very loud and it will most probably annoy you) at the reception they sell little boats that floats and drives on water personally I liked the secret money boxes and one says keep out with a skull with cross bones and they're made of wood. You need to pull out one piece out of the box and then slide it open.

A whole lot of models, particularly out the back. Also a giant Pacific-going raft. Sound bad? Heck no! They're intriguing, well put together, and has a Skyhawk on an aircraft carrier. The curators were knowledgeable and interested as well, which is always good to see. My only problem was my stomach decided to play up halfway through my walkthrough, which meant I had to rush through the rest and beat a hasty retreat.

24/3/24 (Sunday) The outside is very deceiving as to what’s inside. So much to look at, not just Australian. My husband who is xNavy was pleasantly surprised at the amount of pieces on display. Even finding a painting of his Grandfather’s ship! The entry is $5 adults $2 kids open most days, but due to lack of volunteers may not be open depending on staff. Well worth the stop
