Whites Hill Reserve in Brisbane is a cherished natural haven offering a variety of recreational activities for visitors of all ages. Walking Trails: The reserve features well-maintained, interconnected trails suitable for both casual walkers and avid hikers. The Acacia Track is particularly popular, allowing visitors to customize their route’s length and difficulty. Wildlife and Scenery: As you traverse the eucalypt forests, there’s a good chance of spotting local wildlife, including koalas. The trails also offer glimpses of the city skyline, enhancing the walking experience. Playground and Sports Facilities: For families, the reserve boasts an exploration playground equipped with a 35-meter double flying fox, climbing nets, and sensory areas. Adjacent to the playground are sports fields and a well-equipped exercise area. Dog-Friendly Areas: While dogs are welcome, it’s essential to keep them on a leash within the reserve to protect local wildlife. There is a dedicated off-leash dog park near the corner of Boundary and Cavendish Roads for those who prefer to let their pets roam freely. Visitor Tips: Amenities such as covered picnic tables and barbecues are available, making it a great spot for gatherings. However, it’s advisable to arrive early to secure a spot, especially during peak times. Additionally, a café across the road offers convenient access to refreshments. In summary, Whites Hill Reserve provides a diverse range of activities amidst Brisbane’s natural beauty, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists.

I grew up in Bussum in The Netherlands. We called are Central Park “The Green Lung”. And that’s the idea that came to my mind whilst discovering Whites Hill Reserve. It’s a huge green lung in the middle of urban development. We would have walked for at least an hour and a half, I’d say. The reserve is big enough to lose the noise from traffic, mowers, whipper snippers and the like. There are two look outs and the terrain is undulating. The scenery is not exactly wow but it’s a great feeling to escape from cement and be in nature. XO

There is nothing thrilling than to spot an animal in their natural habitat. We saw 5 koalas in total. You have to have keen eyes. The trails are not 100% suitable for strollers or wheelchairs though you could give it a try. We didn’t mind taking the stroller but the path could be rocky here and there. We went along the summit trail. The view of Brisbane skyscrapers was amazing! Birdwatchers could try spotting birds. We saw king parrots too and pale headed rosellas. There are toilets at the entrance and kids park too!

Before I make this review, let me state a few things: 1- I built none of the tracks in this reserve. 2 - I rode every track possible, so I can give my honest opinion. 3 - I don’t like the council and any committees against mountain bikers at all. Here it goes: Whites Hill was a great place to ride, it really switched things up a bit, rather than riding boring old flat trails that had no character to them, this system was a step in the right direction. It was only a shame that on Sunday 31 June 2019, Brisbane City Council decided that it was in their best interest to come along and knock every trail in this area down!! I was disappointed to see that a few of my friends went there for a casual ride in the reserve on the Monday and found nothing but baron plains of destroyed trails, I couldn’t imagine how they must of felt going there to find the remains of a once beautiful trail system made by some of the greatest people to bless the SE Brisbane Region, all just....gone Me and some close friends talked to the artists behind these trails and they said they were planning bigger things with the system, they just needed approval from the council first, which they went ahead with. We don’t know how far they got with it but clearly, they failed at getting the right approval :( Here are some questions I’ll ask anyone reading this review who knew about Whites Hill mtb trails (especially bushcare groups, oh... can’t forget about the grumpy old people too) 1- Did these tracks hurt anyone? 2- Did these tracks cause life threatening injuries to anyone/anything? 3- Was there or wasn’t there less drug activity after these tracks were built? 4- Reading some articles about “Illegal jumps”, did these trails damage the eco-system increasingly? With these questions in mind, have a think to yourself about them, and think carefully. I enjoyed my time at Whites Hill, it was such a nice area to ride in, and mates made the day more fun and exciting. Seeing people get out of their comfort zones and try new things and progress was what made the day even better. Seeing people fall, get up, brush themselves off and laugh about it just made you think of how fun it was to ride there. I know some people take bushcare too literally, and I understand, but this has tainted my experience completely, local trails are no longer, we now have to trek a little further to get somewhere as equally better. The council needs to step up and listen to the youth mountain bike community in the SE Brisbane area. Every piece of information we push towards the council about MTB trails, clearly just goes over their heads, they’re more worried about making an income at the end of the day. Final thoughts, I don’t like the people inside the Whites Hill Bushcare committee, they portray us kids as terrorists to the local wildlife, if there is a tree over a walking track, we will move it for others, not just keep it there..... we don’t knock down trees ourselves to make jumps That is all I have, but there may be more.... not sure...

It's hard not to recommendd this place. SInce the family and I discovered it it's been a go to place for birthday parties, BBQs and general "what are we gonna do with the kids today" kind of afternoons.

The main play area is fully fenced, there are toilets, BBQs and undercover tables and there is a MASSIVE sports pitch adjoining the playground that you can let the older kids loose on with soccer/footballs should the play equipment not appeal to them.

The place is made in a sort of "bush nautical theme" with flying foxes, a big slide, swings, and sandpit. there's also some surprisingly not annoying musical toys that the littlies seem to gravitate to to make a delightfully sounding cacophony.

My only gripe with this place is that there could be more undercover areas incase of poor weather - there's shadesails over much of the playground and the picnic areas but not much else.

In short: go check...
