We were drawn to this place due to a promising modern fresh Mexican menu and good reviews and it was fully booked the Friday night we got there. Fit out and atmosphere were great and staff friendly and efficient. But let's talk about their signature dish the prawn black bear fajitas which at $35 each you expect a premium experience. Instead they delivered barely disguised old school Mexican with what appeared to be a bottled salsa which was mediocre at best, a guacamole that appeared again to be commercially prepared not fresh (and in a homoeopathic quantity for a dish this sized). The filling was fried onions and capsicum in huge quantities contasting with 6 identically sized and shaped prawns on top (which is always suspicious from a freshness point of view) that is one medium sized prawn per fajita. Again the Fajitas appear to have come out of a packet and we're not prepared in house which is all forgivable at suburban Mexican but not at $35 per dish. The dish would have been lifted by one fresh element i.e. a tangy herbie fresh salsa or guacamole or juicy fresh large prawns but no...... the kitchen clearly doesn't believe in mise en place that goes beyond opening a jar or a packet and if they do someone is doing it terribly wrong. It wasnt awful just disappointingly mediocre, and with a quick rethink of what they are doing in the kitchen and responding to objective feedback this place...
Read moreI thought about this review and was hesitant to give an honest opinion because the staff were so lovely but it just didn't live up to the hype. Pros: -The atmosphere is amazing and so fun and beautiful. They've even got blankets to use if it's too cold outside. The decor is awesome and it has great attention to detail. -As mentioned the staff were wonderful and friendly and did everything right. They couldn't be faulted. I'd almost return for those two reasons alone. Except that you go to restaurants for the food which brings me to the cons: -We did have a booking but the wait for food was extraordinarily long. I can see this is the case in other reviews. You know when you start to wonder if they forgot? It was that long. The food wasn't anything special. It was kind of bland and didn't taste particularly fresh, nor like tex mex which should hit you with a lot of flavours. On top of that, it was really expensive for what you got. If the food was super flavorful or larger portions, that would justify the cost but it just felt too pricey for what we ate. If they had a menu refresh I'd definitely come back and give...
Read moreHey hey Well what an lovely evening we had here. The waitress was welcoming and attentive. She came to us a number of times to check on us and our needs during the meal. The decor is interesting st ting and there are any number of things to draw your interest. We sat inside but there out doors dining is welcoming and drew a nice breeze. Food was great with a selection of stuffed jalapeno peppers and the fish taco to share between us. They were really nice to start our meal. We ordered the nachos and the Malibu beef burger. The nachos were huge in serving and tasted great. The burger as Los was decent and served with chips. I kept the left over rang dressing for the poppers and used them with my serve of chips. There is a wide variety of beverages to choose from. Service was quick and friendly. We went on a Sunday night which has it's own menu as there is a different menu Wednesday to Saturday. Closed Monday and Tuesday. All in all was s great meal with good and quick service. Prices were moderate but reasonable. Go an and enjoy. There is off street parking at the back of the restaraunt so no problems...
