30.9.2024 - *Edit* the owner of Stokes Hill Wharf was kind enough to point out there there is free parking for the first 3hours, then the meters kick in - thank you!! Gained a star, but just wandering what can be done regarding covered parking π would definately get 5 stars then. Original Review: I remember my Nana dragging my brother, cousins & I down to here to go fishing off the side of the wharf; back then the eatery warehouse's were just 1 (one) giant warehouse that housed floats for parades that used to go through darwin city π€ that was a long time ago, I remember a dragon float, we could see it through the gaps in the doors. I also remember that we used to watch the burning of the illegal fishing boats where the waterfront now sits. The changes with the eateries are +10! Having the Royal Flying Doctors museum is amazing (I have yet to experience - watch my reviews and like, I'll be there soon!). What lost 2 stars is the fact that they have paid parking meters for the parking now π that's just bad form - the carparks arent even undercover (they should install covered parking with solar panels to feed the amazing restaurants on the wharf). Get rid of the parking meters π During the dry season there is unusually a Ferris Wheel and mini golf area set up; which is awesome, BUT they didn't have it during 2024 π I'm not sure why? Shout out to "Kim's Fish N Chips" on the wharf - you need to make this your first stop for food ππ delicious every time and they are open for brunch, lunch and dinner! If you are looking for a casual place to buy quality fresh takeaway meals and enjoy a refreshing drink, this is the spot. Eat there on the resin tables and chairs with umbrellas - right on the water or undercover. The food outlets offer an incredible variety and are well presented with the food truly delicious. Choose from authentic Thai, seafood, fish and chips, curries, and chilli mudcrabs! There were at least two alcohol licensed outlets we saw, both with a large variety of beers, wines, and spirits to choose from. There is also an ice creamery offering an extensive range of gelato's. Yum! We went for a light lunch, then took a quick drive to the water park precinct for a swim and returned for dinner! For a casual no fuss lunch or dinner we highly recommend Stokes Hill Wharf. There are toilets and a paid parking area. We sat and watched the Scenic Eclipse 11 leave Port with a navy ship in the background, tugs and cruisers moving about. Top spot! ππβοΈ

Lovely old commercial wharf cum Tourist attraction, museum and restaurants with great views over Darwin Harbour. Watch the ships and tugs in action, try your hand at fishing off the wharf or just relax over a meal or drink from the many restaurants available. Great fish & chips at "Fusion" and others with fresh NT seafood available and many Aussie, Chinese, Indian and Asian dishes, dining is available inside or under the shade or at the wharf side in the sun, a choice for everyone. Takeaways are available, prices reasonable. Some history plaques of WW2 bombings of Stokes Hill Wharf and Darwin Harbour, a "must visit" place for visitors to Darwin, mingle with the locals :-)

Its 33Β°C here today at the beginning of Winter. The Port Darwin and Waterfront walking paths are exceptional with open paths and access to drinking water and many historical information sights that really are very well presented. Stokes Hill has an historically significant history from the time of surveying and settlement and of course during WW2 and Cyclone Tracy. But before that for thousands of years organised clans of Indiginous people of The Saltwater lived here and that is what I enjoy the most. Looking out over the ocean here is good to have a map to get a real insight into the neighbouring islands and countries abroad.

This was the first place I fell in love with when I first came to Darwin in 2010. The food is still great and growing and changing as all things do. The views are "to die for..." and the sunsets here are amazing. Wet season, dry season, build up or let down it's always a great place for locals and visitors alike to come to. Buy a drink, buy a meal sit down with friends and just relax. And that's without even mentioning its amazing history from the 1885 roughly until today. Including being... the home terminal of the Old North Australia Railway Line and being almost totally demolished during WWII! Sit back and dream.
