It really is a must to see the old gaol & doesn't take long. Maybe half hr. The cost is free, but donations help support its upkeep. The map provided, interpretive boards & audio tours that you download are great. They make this self guided tour very interactive. Great job with that. It possibly isn't super entertaining for young kids, but from a historical point of view, it is an important part of Darwin heritage.

Beware it is hot! Take water & a hat. Not a lot of trees around, or rest stops between the sites. The ground / grass is also not super easy with a pram, definitely not in a wheelchair. There are quite a few steps up and over cement edges, so it's not very smooth or even ground.

It is what it is, a historic jail. A definite quick see on the way to the cool spot for...

I spent a hour walking around the Prison/grounds, its very airy and feels like alot of spirits still roam the prison grounds and prison cells. There are unmarked graves where the tool shed is located. When I walked into the Tool Shed I immediately started to shiver and get goosebumps all over my body, after a few seconds standing in the Tool Shed I needed to get out as I felt like vommiting. In the High Security accomadation block, cell 7 & cell 1 is definitly haunted! I herd a loud bang! Come from around where cell 7 is located. I was the only person in the block at the time. The Gallows feels airy too. Overall it was an interesting experience. The staff are lovely and the grounds are well maintained. Entry fee was a donation. I would go back for another visit...

The goal which was set in1883 till 1979. The place looks like a torture cell. Every part of building and artefacts tells the story of the torture of the prisoners. They were small crime like stealing or fighting for their land to murder of people who I think were trying to take over their land. No human should be treated like this as they were in those days. If u enter the cell the doors were slim and I even couldn't get through. The torture cell were a square meter with no windows and they had prison for kids . Few places I felt the present of the spirit and astomoshere is very sad

Thanks for keeping this history and hope we don't repeat this torture of...

This is an unexpectedly delightful attraction, and it's completely free. Although the site isn't large, the visit experience is excellent. At the entrance, a staff member hands out a map and kindly informs us that we can listen to an audio guide by scanning a QR code with our phones. The process is very easy, and we followed the suggested route on the map. Each room had interesting explanations, and the entire visit took about an hour. It’s definitely a place worth seeing.
