By day, a glorious place to capture a sweeping view of Fremantle from a very unique perspective.

My parents used to take me here as a kid to play rolly polly down those beautifully kept grounds. It was only later I began to realise the significance of this place.

Despite the view, the focus turns inward towards remembrance of those that had fallen in defence of our borders in the first world war.

Understanding the solemnity of this place makes it a deeply reflective experience.

That's by day... at dawn, particularly on one special day of each year, it takes on another magnitude of meaning.

The Fremantle War Memorial is a truly beautiful and peaceful place that stands as a moving tribute to those who served. Located on Monument Hill, the memorial offers stunning panoramic views over Fremantle and the harbor, creating a serene and reflective atmosphere.

The grounds are well-maintained, with lovely gardens and plenty of space to walk around and take in the significance of the site. The memorial itself is striking and thoughtfully designed, honoring the sacrifices made by so many.

It’s a place that invites quiet reflection, but also offers a sense of pride and gratitude. Whether you’re visiting to pay respects, take in the views, or simply enjoy a peaceful moment, the Fremantle War Memorial is well worth a visit. A beautiful reminder of the past, standing tall in the heart...

I hadn't been here for forty years, so when we happened to be at a function across the road we took the opportunity to remember Fremantle's fallen and their comrades who fought beside them.

Situated off High Street Fremantle atop the city's highest hill, the centre obelix was placed so that it is the first building in Fremantle you can see when approaching from the Indian Ocean. There are additional memorial chapels on the perimetre for WWII servicemen.

The importance of Garden Island Submarine Base is underlined by the memorials to Australian and allied submariners.

The grounds are luxurious. Deep spongy lawn surrounds the memorial and the crest of the hill where the oblelix stands offers the best view of the Port...
