Beautiful old building with a lovely broken gas system so no heaters were functional on a chilly af night and no hot drinks available such as tea or coffee or mulled wine. So just want to let you folks in on this cool invention which they call a “kettle”, might want to look into it boss. Also, hot water dispensers are only about $150. A small investment to keep people from getting hyperthermia and frostbite when trying to enjoy your balconies. You’re reading this and thinking, oh, I should wear more clothes maybe? Okay, I’ll just wear a huge snow jacket, gloves and beanie next time I’m trying to enjoy some casual after work chit and or chats. Helpful and friendly staff and severs, this review is directed more towards poor upper management from the higher ups. Thanks for tuning into my Ted Talk.

We attended the federal hotel for a Friday night evening meal. The Friday night special was steak which was cooked to our liking however we found the overall meal a bit salty. Being a pub environment this is sometimes done to encourage you to drink more. I asked at the bar if they could make a mocktail but they couldn't offer anything other than soft drinks. After the meal we opted to have a dessert. The pana cotta unfortunately put the nail in the coffin. At the cost of $12 ea they were a huge disappointment. Served with scoop of sorbet sitting on top it was tricky to eat with the soup spoon given to us. When we made it to the pana cotta it was like a stiff jelly unlike the soft creamy texture a pana cotta should be.

A typical backpackers experience. Don't stay on weekend if you need to rest. We made the mistake of staying on the Sunday night - not knowing that there was a Sunday session that carried on til Midnight ; terrible after a long day of travelling. Then other guests were drunk talking in the hallway. The bathrooms and bedrooms were clean, the walls very thin could hear noise from other bedrooms and bathroom. Beds and pillows not comfortable. Basic communal kitchen with mini fridge and glassware, toaster and kettle. Food was great downstairs.

This would have been a 4 star review had my dining experience been better. I always like to write down the positives of my experience to offset the negatives. My partner and I thought it would be nice to have a break from cooking to enjoy a pub meal. What we got was that in spades- a beautiful, delicious meal (keep up the ripper work kitchen staff! 😊). The meals were delivered in a timely and pleasant manner. Thanks waitstaff! 🙂 However, our initial lovely experience was overshadowed, when full from our meals we wanted to ask for them to be packed to go. I called out politely "excuse me" to a female staff member who made a point of ignoring me as she walked past. This experience was repeated again, when I politely called out the same to another young female staff member walking past, except she said "give me 2 seconds" then made a point of ignoring me as she walked past us again (ignoring me again whilst looking at me directly as I smiled at her hoping she'd come to our table.) She did not return. A simple "sorry I can't help you" or "this is not my area" would have sufficed as I understand the demands of the job can be tough, especially when busy or dealing with difficult customers, (but we weren't one of those.) Had I known we would get no service in the pub lounge area (we were in the booths in front of the kitchen) I would have gone to the main restaurant area. In addition, my partner was also ignored when he tried to politely get the waitstaff's attention. In the end, we got a takeaway container from a helpful kitchen staff member. Hallelujah! 👌🙏 For anyone reading this: food is top notch but service is non existent. Try your luck in the main restaurant area if you don't want to be treated rudely. To the hotel food management (if you're reading this), please put on a waitstaff person specific to this dining area as we were paying, seated customers who were ignored several times; or train your walk-by staff to be a bit kinder to customers, even if it's to inform us that they can't be of...

Extremely Disappointed by Poor Communication and Lack of Consideration by Floor Manager.

I made a table reservation at The Federal Hotel three weeks in advance over the phone, specifically noting that our group included young children and an elderly guest with a serious back injury. Unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing.

On the evening of our booking, we were delayed by just five minutes due to severe weather and difficulty finding parking. I attempted to call the venue four times to inform them of the delay, but received no answer. Upon arrival, we spent ten minutes walking around trying to locate our table, only to be told it had been given away.

At no point during the booking process was I informed that our reservation would be forfeited if we were 5-10 minutes late. The staff member on duty who claimed to be the manager simply stated she couldn’t assist but would “work with us if another table became available” - on a busy footy night, that was highly unlikely…. We ended up having to send the family with children and the elderly family member home, as they were in no position to dine standing up. This appeared to be their only option if they wanted to eat as we had intended.

Despite having flagged our group’s specific needs in advance, there was no flexibility or compassion shown. The lack of communication and disregard for our circumstances was unacceptable. I wouldn’t bother making a reservation or dining at The Federal Hotel or any other establishment under the same ownership during event days, there appears to be absolutely no difference/advantage of booking, to just walking...

I went to the Federal Hotel and was thoroughly disappointed with the menu.

The issue with the menu was the “gf” gluten free symbol. This symbol is featured numerous times on the menu especially on the starters section. After ordering food we were told was gluten free and mentioning a celiac disease, which if you aren’t aware is an allergy too gluten, the waitress came back to tell us nothing with the “gf” symbol is actually gluten free because it’s all cooked together! I’m not sure why your menu features so many “gf” symbols if none of those foods are actually gluten free is it very dangerous because you are feeding people with allergies food they are allergic too after promising and promoting it as safe!

er the waitress went and checked with the chef we found out only the salads could be made gluten free, the chef did mention the pizzas with a gluten free base but as they are touching the same pizza oven with no protection under them the bottom of them is getting covered in gluten flour from the normal pizzas hence making them unsafe for those with allergies. We needed up ordering the chicken breast as only ONE thing on the whole menu is actually gluten free!

The menu needs a revamp to accurately show what if gf before you poison...
