A mate of mine used to go here pretty often by himself and talk to punters in the bar just randomly. Sail and Anchor is that kinda place and uncoincidentally my favourite pub in town. I think a lot of it is thanks to nostalgia, like when I think of the chilli beer that they used to have on tap and it was my favourite beer for a while. Years later, it's still good. The range of drinks is still expansive, the chicken parmy is still a winner and it's still a nice vantage point to people watch. I say a lot of places in Freo are definitively Freo, but I think the Sail and Anchor is the most definitive of what Freo is about. All the characters come out to play at all times of the day, and you'd like to be in the midst of it.

Edit: The review below was for the most awesome vegan fish and chips I’ve ever had. Unfortunately they’ve changed their menu and removed everything except a vegan burger (standard, safe vegan option). So this WAS a 5 star review that I’ve had to update to a 2 star review now due to the removal of epic, tasty and different options. Unfortunately the Sail and Anchor menu is now just a plain boring pub menu with nothing amazing or unique. The vegan fish and chips here is incredible! Every time I’ve had it has been the same super high standard. Pints are cheap (there’s always an $8 pint each day). Staff are friendly and I’ve never had a bad meal here. Love this place.

My husband and I hosted our sons 21st in the Freemason room, May 2024, after we attended a friends 50th there a few months before and were impressed both times. 60 guests, The staff, especially bar manager Mitch, were very helpful, friendly and professional. All guests were SUPER IMPRESSED with the food, we ordered platters, sliders, arachini balls, keve' chicken balls, sausage rolls/pies and pizzas. Heaps of food... maybe a little too much but they gave us takeaways. With the balance of the balcony outside and inside with pool table, lounges and bar tables it suited everyone. We put on food and cake, with open bar for guest. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Walked past this place so many time but never thought of dining here. Decided to give it a go and absolutely did not disappoint. Neither of us were very hungry so we decided to order a few small bite dishes to share. All of us were amazed at all 3 dishes we’ve ordered. Oh boy was the hot sauced chicken ribs spicy but full of flavour! The cheesy garlic bread was so tasty I wanted more. Steak Sanga had delicious sauce and flavours. We could not be happier with the 3 dishes we had ordered. Absolutely must try! Visit the famous Fremantle market and surrounds while you are down this way, plenty to do if it’s your first time in Perth!

Sailor-themed bar with amazing atmosphere. Food was good but the surroundings made it. I had a seafood kebab which came cooking on it's own hot-plate. Very fresh and had a great taste but something I could have recreated at home without too much difficulty. The pudding was a bit of a disappointment: fig pudding with toffee sauce, pretty standard, nothing special about it. It feels like you've just climbed down into the dining quarters of an old ship. Overloaded with memorabilia and seafaring paraphernalia everywhere you look. It's dimly lit and there seems to be a constant low grumble of noise from other diners.

First time customer well nearly. Seen the Tuesday steak special and politely said to the girl cleaning a table excuse me to get her attention to ask about the menu and a table for 8 instead of replying she just looked directly at me and ignored me some of your patrons laughed at the situation. Guess we take our money elsewhere. Shame because the steak sounds good but no point giving money to places who don't want it or need it right kill your business with poor customer service doesn't affect us. Read my other reviews first I prefer giving 5 stars to business not 1. 1 is if you actually deserve it 👋
