WARNING - be sure to check the amount they charge you when ordering wines from the cellar door!
I enjoyed the wine tasting at Pooley Wines and ordered a mixed dozen to be sent to Sydney. I was told that my order invoice would be emailed to me. This never happened. When I checked my credit card statement the next day, it seemed a lot higher than it should have been. I called the Vineyard and requested a copy of my order invoice because it seemed too high. The next day I got an apology email saying I was over charged by $180 and they would refund the amount back to my credit card. Ok, mistakes happen. I still had not received my order invoice, so I asked AGAIN. I got another apology email for the over charge and a promise that the money would be refunded asap. Days went by and still NO refund to my account. After a week and over a half a dozen emails, I finally had to threaten to make a complaint to my credit card company - only then was the money finally refunded.
If this had been handled promptly, I would not have had a problem with the over charge mistake. The fact that it took a full week, lots of emails and me threatening to escalate things was very disappointing and made me wonder if this happens often with this establishment? My advice is to get a copy of your order on the day and check the charge on your credit card before you leave - or go to another vineyard all together. After this experience I won’t be...
Read moreWe recently had a very poor experience at the cellar door. I've been to around 20 wine tastings across Australia and this would have to be the least enjoyable, despite decent wine and a beautiful location.
We had a group of 10 people come through for a tasting. We were told to be quiet within the first 5 minutes after we laughed too loud. It was only our second winery for the day so no one was intoxicated, we could've probably all still driven a car.
We were given less than 5 minutes of attention across the tasting. There was 7-10 minutes between each sample. We would finish tasting it within 1-2 minutes and awkwardly sit there for another 8 minutes. There was only 1-2 other groups doing a tasting and 3 staff.
It took almost an hour to get 5 samples of wines. After the final sample, no one came back to our table to conclude the experience, thank us for visiting them or ask if we were interested in purchasing any wine. We just sat there awkwardly for 15 minutes.
It wasn't a particularly horrible experience. It was just a total non-event and waste of time. I can't believe anyone would run a tasting like that from a business perspective and not even ask if we wanted to buy anything. Reading other low rated reviews, it seems like this is a common experience here. I would just go elsewhere. Buying a bottle of Pooley Wines at Dan Murphy's and sharing it with friends at home would have been...
Read moreAppalling cellar door. Did the long trek from Huonville for what seemed to be a premium winery but left disgusted with the customer service and management of this place. First we got told that there would be a half an hour wait for the tastings, which turned to an hour by the time we got to our tasting table (without being informed that they were running behind). Second, the young gentleman serving the wines had his mind somewhere else when he was serving us the wines, which itself took 5 minutes between each wine tasted. We had a booking elsewhere and were quite in a rush but the staff didn't seem to have any worry in the world with the service provided. We did another tasting in Ranelagh and that took us ten minutes at the most to taste an array of white, sparkling and red wines with a dedicated cellar door member and it was great. Nothing worst than having to wait 5 minutes for a sample of a wine to taste when you've got 10 + wines on the list ! Third, there is much much better wines in Tasmania for the price or even better, stick to a Victorian winery for better Pinots ! We left after tasting two wines in 15 minutes otherwise we would've been tasting wine at this cellar door for over an hour, which is not really the definition of a...
