Integrity is the name of the game in the vanilla slice business. The Richmond Bakery have nailed this part of the slice. Biting into the vanilla slice, you could hear the crunch of the pastry and the softness of the custard. However, the vanilla slice showed its maturity with its structural integrity, remaining intact and compact throughout the entire consumption. The icing gave some lovely hints of sweetness without being overbearing, and nice hints of chocolate in addition. The pastry was not cakey or soggy, and had some nice, more savoury tones. In contrast to some other bakeries, there were three layers of pastry, essentially allowing a consumer to split it into more suitable portion sizes. The only criticism I have today is that of flavour. To my taste, the custard was unfortunately lacking the the namesake vanilla flavour (although it was there). Would love to see you guys improve. Quite underwhelmed by the coffee in other news. Thankyou Richmond Bakery, I salute you.

Dining Experience @ The Richmond Bakery. . The Richmond Bakery is a culinary bastion of this historic town, known for their wide variety of breads, pies, pastries, sandwiches, and confectioneries, all hand made fresh daily. . The Meat Pie Curried Scallop (AUD $7.80) is a signature pastry here, and is among the best renditions I've tried. . Features tender juicy morsels of deshelled scallops, diced potatoes, white onions, and carrots, in a mild turmeric spiced curry gravy. . Served within a crumbly pie pastry crust that is nicely butter glazed. It has a sweet savoury spice salty flavour. . Their rendition of the Lamington (AUD $5) dessert is soft and grainy, with bready sweet chocolatey flavour. . Enjoyed the Black Forest Cake (AUD $7) with its soft creamy texture and enticing chocolatey milky fruity sour sweet boozy flavour. . Loved the Vanilla Slice (AUD $6.80) with its creamy wobbly soft crisp flaky texture and bright floral sweet buttery flavour.

With so many delicious looking options making it hard to decide, we finally ordered a Chicken & Camembert pie, and a sausage roll. The pastry was crisp and fresh, and the filling was delicious. The pie has just the right ratio of chicken to Camembert … so delicious! I recommend this pie if you ever visit Richmond. The sausage roll was delicious too but the pie was exceptional. The staff were courteous and friendly. We sat in the courtyard and listened to a nearby harp player (yes, a harp player) while we devoured our morning tea. A very memorable event. I recommend this bakery.

I actually want to rate 4.5 stars, but I can only pick 4 or 5, and so I went with 5 as 4 is too harsh.

Amazing chicken and Camembert Pies. You can taste the Camembert nicely as there are small chunks throughout the pie that give that bit of flavour hit when it hits your tongue. Vanilla slice is to die for. I'm fussy with vanilla slice, but this one certainly ticked all the boxes.

I just take off .5 of a star for service. They need an extra person or two when it's busy. We went on Saturday at lunchtime, and it was extremely busy. The queue reached the door, and people were waiting a while to get served. Not to mention people queue jumping as staff went from using one till to two then back to one, and customers didn't know who to get served by and who was next. But apart from that, we'll definitely visit again when...
