Monte Cristo was on my bucket list for years and on Saturday August 13th 2022, I finally got around to going.
I stayed over night in the house. I was shown to my room and given time to settle down and have a look around. The room was old but it just added to the whole atmosphere of the house's original era. I'd just put my bags down when, as clear as day, I heard a female voice say 'Welcome'. I was the only one in the room.
Dinner was served before the tour and the food was fantastic. The ghost tour itself was very informative and fascinating as Lawrence and Sylvia showed us through the house, where Lawrence told us the history of each room and all the stories tied to it. We were led around the rest of the property by Sophia who was also an excellent guide with lots of stories and experiences of her own.
Throughout the tour, the spirits were very active and well and truly made their presence known. Some people couldn't go into rooms because they felt sad, others because they felt sick and some just felt unwelcome.
There were a few young ladies on the tour who were staying the night and, at the beginning, they acted like the whole thing was a big joke. They jumped scared each other in the bathrooms, giggled annoyingly through the first half of the tour and appeared to have no respect for their surroundings. The next morning however, they were very quiet and admitted they had experienced things during the night.
In my room during the night, I heard footsteps up and down the stairs, a door slam and what sounded like people humming. I was very cold at one point and I swear I felt someone putting a blanket over me. I was staying there by myself, so I was the only one in the room. Almost everyone reported having experiences at some point, whether it was during the tour, during the night or the day after.
A massive thank you to Olive, Lawrence and his family for letting me visit and stay in their home. I really enjoyed my stay and I hope to come back one day and do it all again. To any sceptics out there, I strongly recommend staying here, as you won't be sceptic for long. It really is one of the most haunted locations...
Read moreAfter reading all of the mixed reviews on google I couldn't wait to go and make my own mind up. My partner and I went with another couple and when we arrived, we were greeted by Lawrence who was our host and also grew up in the Monte Cristo. The homestead looked old however still had a beautiful charm about it. Before the ghost tour we were able to wonder the property and walk through the barn, the ballroom and other sheds before meeting others for dinner at 6pm. The food was nice (it wasn't 5 star) but it was nice. Lawrence was looking after everyone making sure that we had drinks and was constantly asking if anyone needed anything. One thing that really stood out to me was that this was one man doing everything, although I'm sure he had some help out the back, it was mainly Lawrence. we all ventured through the Monte Cristo listening to Lawence talk about the Crawleys and what went on in the home and then Lawrence's father buying the property and his experience growing up in the home. There were definitely some creepy things happing within the home when we were there and also hearing other people in the room with us and what they were experiencing was also very cool. Our room were comfortable and a little scary at night especially after the tour. Lawence greeted us the next morning with a huge breakfast of cereals, bacon, eggs, toast and potato gems. We then all talked about our experiences in our rooms the night before. I just want to thank Lawrence and Olive for sharing their beautiful home with us and for the incredible stories they both shared. If you are wanting 5-star accommodation, then this is not the place BUT if you are wanting to hear about the history of Monte Cristo and wanting to experience what it is like to spend the night in Australia's most haunted place in Australia and have such an informative host then this is the place to be. Thank you, Lawence and Olive, for sharing your home and your stories with us. When we were there, we spoke to a lady who was there on her third visit. I can't wait for us to be back...
Read moreMy Partner and I opted in for the Tour, Dinner, Bed and Breakfast package. We rung a few months ago to find they had a waiting list of a few months. We were lucky that they had a cancellation as we were able to make it earlier than anticipated. We were greeted by Lawrence, Linda and Olive who all gave a warm welcome and showed us to our rooms. We all came together at 6pm to discuss and have dinner which consisted of entree and mains, which were absolutely beautiful. We made the rookie mistake and had a pub meal for lunch… next time we won’t eat past brunch. They were large meals and very filling (and scrumptious). We then went on the tour and came back for dessert, Tea and coffee after. The tour was not only very informative on the history of the homestead, but also very interesting on a paranormal level. As Lawrence said to our group, he’s not there to scare you.. you can make up your own mind. We all had mixed experiences in the house and into the night when we went to bed. Might I add also, if you appreciate a good speaker then Lawrence is your person. He made the tour fantastic. Due to some experiences I chickened out and wanted to leave. Lawrence was incredibly accomodating and offered for us to move rooms which helped the situation. We got up early the next day and were greeted with both a light breakfast if we wished and or a hot home cooked ‘big breakfast’. All in all it was a fantastic night. If you want a real ghost tour then this is the one for you. It was...
