Location- okay but you will have to wait for an hour for a bus to get anywhere.
Kitchen- Abysmal conditions, no washing up liquid, no lighting (cooking in the dark) hardly any utensils to use, dirty tea clothes. They do not provide any cutlery you have to purchase these at reception for $5. If you want to borrow a wet quit to be able to swim in the sea that’ll be another $10. Want to snorkel while you’re in the sea? Again to borrow their kit that’ll be another $10.
Room- our room had been flooded a few weeks before and let’s just say the cleaners didn’t do a good job, brown water run marks in many places.
The free water they provide tastes of chlorine please avoid!!
If you got next door to the koala village, they provide a lovely breakfast for €35 and if you want a photo with one that’ll be another $25... there’s a running theme here...
The pool was pretty dirty too.
Also we wanted to hire a 4x4 to explore the island and were told we could go everywhere, sadly that wasn’t the case and had a wasted journey when we went to Arcadia hire, who by the way try to get you to sign up without insurance where if anything happens you have to pay $1850 - again avoid.
Have a pleasant stay at magnetic island but make it a short one as you’ll be...

Toilets had no locks on them and there was no Soap. Had paper on the floor that was never tidied up. The koala village was so disappointing. You pay to see koalas in their natural or want-to-be natural habitat but all you have are 5/6 cages with animals in them. You pat a wombat that is supposed to sleep all day, you pat lizards and turtles that just DONT WANT to. The lady doing our wildlife tour in the sanctuary even stepped on a lizards tail and broke it in front of us. It was just awful!!! I will never go there again. So upset about it. We were sure to have booked a place where they respected animals and left them alone - instead they make money out of getting 50 people handling them every single day. Oh and we actually really wanted to hold a koala for a beautiful souvenir photo; we had been dreaming for this for months (unfortanetely we are tourists and did not know they were not domesticated...)- we got a hold of a koala each for an average 10 seconds. What a waste. SO upset about...
Read moreVery disappointed as no-where in their advertising, website or anything do they say come & book in early in the morning then come back for that time slot !! My daughter's attempted to book on line as we were travelling to Magnetic Island the next day & they attempted to make this day great for me as I have Townsville & Magnetic Island connections. We get to Koala Sanctuary after doing our scenic tour & get told that the Backpackers staying there took all of the spots. If there had been an online booking section OR a section that tells you to come & book in for tours early then this wouldn't have been a problem. There didn't seem to be a lot of staff who knew WHAT was going on. I have a mobility issue & it was very hard getting around that small part we did so I would suggest anyone with mobility issues - don't bother as they don't cater to that !! Very very disappointed & upset as my girl's had picked Magnetic Island specifically for me when we could have stayed on the mainland & done the Koala tour. I would suggest that they upgrade their website with booking facilities OR mention that the customer book in early in person with them then go sight-seeing !! It matters when you have time...
