Ate here twice. First time I got a mocha and carrot cake, the missus had bacon and eggs (opting to have them scrambled). My mocha was disappointing, it looked lovely in presentation but was bitter to taste (and I'm not someone who ever sweetens their coffee or tea so I'm used to that). The carrot cake was fine, nothing special, but not bad, not much carrot in it but passable. The reason we came back a second time though was because the missus bacon and scrambled eggs were very good, a bit pricey and the bacon wasn't cooked as much as she normally likes but even so it was good enough that she really enjoyed it and I tried some of the eggs too and they were great, so...
At the end of our holiday we came back, and I should have just had the bacon and eggs like she did, as I already knew it was good, but I thought maybe all their hot food is good so I'll try the big pacific breakfast... First issue, and maybe this doesn't seem like a big deal to you but I found it highly unusual, the server would not allow my request to change the fried eggs to scrambled eggs. I've no idea why, makes no sense, my missus was having scrambled with hers so surely they could just make a larger portion and split them across the two breakfasts? I have never in my life come across a cafe or anywhere that doesn't let you select how you want your eggs bar maybe a few places not doing poached because it's tricky and that's fine but everywhere let's you choose fried or scrambled in my experience. What was doubly strange was that my missus could pick for her bacon and eggs what she wanted hut I couldn't for my big pacific?!? This made zero sense to me and really irritated me as the scrambled eggs was the whole reason we came again.
Anyway, I let that go and then my breakfast came out... It was mostly fine, the flavours were OK and it was suitably seasoned, but my two complaints are that it was quite small (small pieces of toast, small tomato, small sliced chorizo, other portions were OK), which for a $28 breakfast called the "big pacific" was disappointing, especially as my missus' $18 brekky was the same size pretty much. The other complaint is the mushrooms were stone cold, not just not warm, properly cold, like they had come out of a fridge, and this was an unpleasant contrast to the rest of the hot food.
Location and cleanliness was fine, but overall I would say give this place a miss on your trip or just get the bacon and eggs scrambled...
Read moreOMG!!!!! WOW. SIMPLY WOW!!!! This place is soooooo good.
Ok so, firstly, I'm gluten free but also on a low fodmap diet, which means no onion and galic, as well as a few other things. There were a couple dishes that looked and sounded good but I didn't think they could do them so I was going to go for just a plain salad. But thought hey, you never know I will just ask. Normally you get just a straight no, cause the staff can't be bothered asking or if they do ask the chef is normally to busy and simply says yes or no without even thinking of it. Well, not here. These guys go and grab a binder that literally has every single meal they made and the whole break down of each ingredient in it. Like seriously, how cool is that. Turns out the Thai Red Beef Curry was suitable to my diet, so I thought sure why not. It comes out shortly later and ohhh wow, it was simply amazing!!! The flavour the taste the ohhhh just thinking a out it now makes me feel like going and jumping on the ferry and heading back over there just to eat it again. Like it was one of the best things I've eaten all year!!!! Someone else on our table had potato gnocchi and the look on her face when she first had it, ohh you could just tell how amazing it was. I did try a very small amount and yes it was superb. Others had toasted sandwiches and wraps and they were all great. Even the juices were amazing. Like seriously, Every Single Thing we got from this place was so beautiful. This holiday of ours is newlry over but I am really tempted to do another quick trip there as I'm just remembering how good it all was. And best yet, the service was wonderful. They not only went out of there way initally to help us, but afterwards we had a massive spillage and they cleaned it with a smile. Each time they come over they were happy and would stay for a chat. Like I know this review is going a bit long, but seriously, if you are looking for someone to eat at on the island, even if you are on the other side of the island, trust me, it is so...
Read moreVISITORS TO MAGGIE! Do NOT go to this cafe! You may be from a state that doesn’t have strict vaccine rules or perhaps you’re just used to a tolerant restaurant experience. You won’t find it here. They choose not to serve take away not only to the unvaccinated, but to long time loyal customers and locals. I was refused service in the middle of a storm, when I offered to stand outside and pay cash, and when I asked them if they would rather send me out into a storm to drive 20 minutes on a windy and dangerous mountain road, through a monsoon, to the next option - they coldly replied ‘it’s the law’. Nourish what? Your pockets? Your egos? Your close minded beliefs? Disgusting establishment, overpriced menu and a dismissive attitude. These are the kind of people who would choose not to serve a certain colour or religion of people if they could get away with it. Happy Australia Day!
UPDATE: I’ve attached photos of the current mandates specifying that take away is permitted for vaccine free persons. I’ve reported this as discrimination to the human rights commission and the ACCC... these are the consequences of...
