Firstly when I arrived, I waited a few minutes at the door (where people were dining outdoors), and I wasn't exactly sure if I was meant to wait there or walk into the back part of the restaurant/bar that I could see. To do that, I had to walk past a small area with a cash register and the door to the kitchen. There were no staff around. I started to walk through this area when someone came out of the kitchen and looked at me like I was doing the wrong thing, I asked "How does it work here if I want a table?" He said someone would help soon. Then a server appeared and again I asked the same question, while she was pleasant, she stated usually we greet and seat you at the door. (Had there been someone there or even a sign to say wait here to be seated, it might have been clearer and if by some chance there is one, I did not see it at all).

I ordered the "spinach" and pumpkin salad. Unfortunately, when I received this at my table and started eating, there was not one spinach leaf to be found. It had mostly lettuce and a small amount of rocket, the pumpkin was very overcooked and the balsamic reduction almost drowned the salad. I ate it because I was hungry, but it wasn't very nice, and being on my own, I didn't want to complain, though I should have. (I wish my photo were clearer, so that you could see).

I do have to say that the two servers who brought my food and drink were friendly and pleasant and the delivery of food was prompt, however, I should have been advised that there was no spinach.

It seems like it is a very nice place, but based on my experience, I wouldn't...

Food was undoubtedly superb and the best on the island. Very tasty and well presented. Also came out quickly with a very decent beverage menu. Beautiful ambience and building with very delightful artwork. Perfect location for date night except…

The experience was tainted by the arrogant/rude/obnoxious owner (tall old guy with glasses named ? Dave) who lacked basic manners such as 'please' or 'thank you'. Tried to engage him in some talk about his food, was completely disinterested and looked at me arrogantly and dismissively. Strange behaviour for someone who is described as a “restauranteur” on a predominantly tourist island. Disappointing as the rest of the staff were otherwise very pleasant, but perhaps fortunate for him that they don't follow his absolutely poor example. Seems like this old fella is a serial offender with his behaviour given reviews below and would be much better for all if he wasn't there. Otherwise, this restaurant is top notch and would be an institution for the island.

Avoid the old tall guy and perhaps you will enjoy better...

Started as a nice evening, our waiter was attentive and friendly and the food arrived promptly, however, after the manager (I assume) and our waiter left for the evening, the remaining staff proceeded to clear up the restaurant (at 8:15) including all the outside area, which annoyed other diners. The remaining staff never came to our table to clear plates, check to see if we wanted another drink or dessert; they were basically in a massive rush to get this place tidied up so they could clock off early. The meal finished without a second drink or any desert that I wanted (as all the staff were nowhere to be seen, except for the chef who was having smoko out the front), and I had to wait in the empty restaurant to pay the bill. This place gave us an average service, shouldn’t be considered a wine bar and looked like it was ran by teenagers. Probably a lovey restaurant with great service on another evening- maybe we were...

My partner and I went to Barefoot tonight randomly after we thought we would check out Horseshoe bay (staying at Nelly Bay) but when we got there most places were closed, maybe because it’s a Sunday night. On a whim we went to Barefoot as it was open and it was beyond expectations. Had no idea what to expect and the food was absolutely superb! The wait staff were also so lovely and made for a beautiful experience. Best meal we have had on the island so far and also better than many places I would usually go at home in Sydney. Highly recommend if you are visiting Magnetic Island. Cannot wait to go back! (Forgot to take more photos because the food was so delicious)
