Flying from Brisbane to work in an onsite bar throughout the majority of the Mt Isa Rodeo i had no idea what to expect from the huge crowds i was about to encounter. What i discovered was a wonderful, warm, welcoming assortment of people from all over the world all wearing huge smiles and greeting myself and each other like old mates from way back reunited after a long absence. Such a delightful energy everywhere. Sitting in the shady bleachers watching Bucking Bull Rides and Cattle Roping on Horseback while i savoured mouthwatering bbq ribs and an icy cold slurpee felt like Living the Aussie Dream to me. The only disappointment, according to my beer drinking buddies is that the only beer available is horrible And costs an arm and a leg $7. Other than that we’d love to be here every year!! Oops I forgot to mention the worst part of the Rodeo: The American “Clown” - unfortunately many Americans get confused about what is Country & Western and what is Religious. This guy was like that.
