What a bridge!!! The bridge was built between 1929 and 1931 to cross the Wagonga Inlet... Narooma Bridge was the first major construction on the Princess Hwy, The bridge design was made to open up to allow large boats to access the inlet as there used to be a large sawmill further down the inlet or for the boats to access the slipway for repairs.
The large concrete block is a counterweight to help with the rising of the middle section... During the running of tidal water, the water can move quickly, at the bottom or top of the tide it is a beautiful place to swim!
Over the years, not only big fish have entered the inlet some sharks and of memory a whale has made it to the bridge!
There is a carpark on the southern side where you can pull in for a swim or fish, on the northern side there's a great little takeaway where you can get fresh seafood but there isn't much parking on that side.
Large semi trucks coming or going on the northern end of the bridge need for on coming vehicle to wait as there is limited room.
How can you be disappointed with a bridge that has stood the test of time and a hell of a lot of traffic over its lifetime, which is close to 95 years old since the first foundation was laid.
It will be a sad day when the government rips down the bridge...
