We had the most incredible seal dive with Underwater Safaris at Montague Island, and I can't recommend it highly enough!
The team at Underwater Safaris are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and they made sure that everyone on the boat had an amazing time. They were also very safety-conscious, and everyone felt comfortable and safe in the water.
A huge shout out to Francois, the owner of Underwater Safaris. He went out of his way to assist my son and I. We had travelled to Merimbula and when I went to access my son's PADI licence via the app, it wasn't there due an oversight by my son's original OW certification dive company (not Underwater Safaris). We had no dive logs with us to show he had completed his OW and we were supposed to be diving with the seals in 48 hours. Due to Francois' amazing effort, we managed to get the issue resolved and we all dived as planned.
When we arrived at Montague Island, the seals were everywhere! We could see them sunbathing on the rocks, swimming in the water, and playing with each other. It was an incredible sight to see.
We spent about two hours in the water across two dives, we had so much fun swimming with the seals. They were very curious and playful, and they came right up to us to investigate.
In addition to the seals, we also saw a variety of other marine life, including fish, some humpback whales, and even a little Port Jackson shark. The water visibility was excellent, and we were able to see everything so clearly.
Overall, wr had an absolutely amazing time on the seal dive with Underwater Safaris. It was an unforgettable experience that I will cherish forever. We'll be back to do another one soon!

Read moreWe went out to Montague as a family group with these guys this arvo. What an awesome day! Among our group were 7 children. These guys were friendly and professional from the start. Despite a run out tide and a medium swell, we crossed the Narooma Bar with ease - making it look easy in the big RHIB with twin 250HP four stroke motors on the back! On the way out, we were fortunate enough to encounter a pod of Dolphins (not unusual for this time of year) Once we arrived at Montague, we anchored in a sheltered bay and Francois took the time to get the kids kitted out with snorkel gear and in the water. He was very patient and pointed out various marine life as well as being rather entertaining - hand-feeding the big Blue Groper was a highlight! However, lets not forget the main event - The Seals! Diving with these animals was amazing. They are truly inquisitive and will keep you mesmerised with their underwater antics. Don't forget to bring an underwater camera!! After the first dive we were given delicious snacks, including homemade muffins. The adults were then able to dive at a second location (much deeper water), jam-packed with about 50 seals. It was great to see just how agile these animals are underwater. In addition, we also spotted a large turtle! We then had a short cruise around the shore of the island and Francois explained some of the history surrounding Montague. Before long, it was time to return to Narooma. I'd recommend these guys to anyone looking for an awesome diving experience. Even if you've never snorkelled before, these guys will have you snorkelling before you know...
Read moreMy only reservation in writing this review is that I'd like to keep Montague, François, and the whole damn thing secret. I suppose the word is out though and François thoroughly deserves the glowing praise you will read in these reviews. Even towards the end of a twelve hour day François was cheerful, attentive and focused. Montague Island offers diving that varies from good to magnificent. The seals are the clowns of the ocean and always good for a laugh but there is far more than pinnipeds to see at Montague; gropers, sharks, turtles, eels, kelp forests, thousands of fish, an abundance of life and something different every dive. If you want coral, go to The Reef. If you want interaction with the ocean's inhabitants, Montague is hard to beat and a lot more accessible. François, backed by his charming wife, Clover and good staff offer everything you may need to dive Montage; gear hire, air, expert advice and guidance. François' style as a Divemaster is comfortably laid back. Experienced divers are encouraged to go use their skills without being Nannied (cough, ahem, Prodive, cough) but new divers get all the support and guidance they need. If you are planning on doing a PADI course in Canberra, my advice is: dont. You will get a far higher level of training with a much lower student/instructor ratio with Underwater Safaris. I can not recommend François and Underwater Safaris...
