Location is great! We loved Narooma.
However, felt, and some guests agreed in talking that some improvements should be made and we were fairly dissapointed with a few aspects.
When we arrived to check into our cabin - the smaller ones - we checked it out - on inspection we were in horror - nothing like website made it look - rust and a bed on the floor , very poor quality and it was clear that these style cabins are being pulled down, because the few ahead of us had already been pulled down, and there was abit of. Construction site happening. - immediately we went to the office to ask to upgrade! To anything but this, kindly asking to pay extra if we need to - They were abit rude at the desk and kinda hesitant at first - which we thought was rude, we were happy to pay more. But once they let us, we moved to the waterside cabins which were must must better and we were happy. Lovely view.
Second issue- We were all given wrist bands to access the pool and amenities. Blue for adults which work to open doors. And red for kids, which didnt open doors but we were told they had to wear. First stay here (as we stayed then left then came back) due to a planned booking for a trip to Merimbula. These red bands we found didnt work to open the doors and they didnt fit our kids wrists anyway. We wore them with the blue or didnt wear at all. On our second trip there we asked the office to not give us the red ones - as it was a $50 fee if they lost them- and we certainly nearly lost them a few times and didnt want to risk that. They said they HAD to.wear them, we explained that they didnt fit the kids wrists And didnt want them. They instead gave us 2 red wrist bands that just had narooma on them (these look like the kind you get for free at an expo) they didnt fit the kids wrists either, we kept them at the cabin, but relaxed abit thinking at least its no fee if we lose these. Well so we thought. One did go missing - and on checkout, they charged us $10 for losing it. This just left a bad taste in our mouth as we really really genuinely asked not to have them - we were always with our kids anyway and with a 4yo we had a feeling we would lose it. And alas..... :(
We feel that amenities should be open between 9am and 6pm too - the 10am-5pm opening times for all activities at the park we felt should have been extended.
Overall we just felt the 1-2 staff members at the desk were.a little rude, they were happy to call up heaps regarding making payments and stuff but did not think to let us know that renovations were taking place. And when we ask to upgrade we feel it should have been a no brainer no problemo vibe - rather then the rather rude .... " we are fully booked"..... "but can you check" then she checks and behold there was an option.... Vibe, just check first before saying fully booked expecting people to stay in the cabins which are obviously ready to be replaced.
I dont usually leave bad feedback, but we prob wont come back here - the policies were a little ik to us compaired to many other places we have stayed and staff can always be more understanding and nice.
Once we payed heaps extra and stayed in the nicer cabins - it was a pleasant stay - but expensive - i think there are...
Read moreOn our return visit within a year, we were extremely disappointed at the amenities in wearing condition (and dirty on doors and walls around handles mainly) and on a long weekend I would have thought more consideration went in to maintaining soap dispensers in amenities blocks. Other guests also commented on having no soap and that they were not replenished daily when using the facilities... bacteria and infection outbreak waiting to happen. Two showers were unable to be used (one out of order and another with no lock). There was limited access hours for park facilities ie. jumping pillow which closed daily at 5 and normally wasn’t inflated until 9:30 during peak holiday/ long weekends / daylight savings which limited options for the children. There were NO holiday programs as we have experienced in other parks along the south coast and something you should consider by way of hiring some holiday workers to provide extra curricular activities for the price you charge. The 4 wheel carts were not able to be booked and we were advised to keep showing up until we see them there instead of a better service of booked on the hour or half hour throughout peak season. We were restricted in spinning our camp trailer on site (due to fire rating, fair enough) only to have two campers down from us with theirs spun among others in the park - it’s obviously a ‘who you know’ or ‘who you get’ to give site direction on arrival. The sites we had in January we requested and advised they were unavailable, however, VACANT the entire weekend we were there??? The sites we were given had consistently high levels of noise from the highway traffic throughout the night also. Yes the splash park, pool and spa is fantastic but for one of the most expensive Big 4s, it needs a lot of work in most other areas! When we visited on the January long weekend, our 12 and 8 year old were given keys to the tennis court ACROSS the road/princes highway without questioning whether a parent/guardian would be supervising. We wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and return, however, it has failed to provide value as a Big 4 and seems to have invested in Monty’s oasis and fell short everywhere else. I will be lodging a...
Read moreWe had an absolute blast at Big 4 Narooma! Such a great location and a lovely spot by the inlet.
PROS: The location. There are coffee spots and ice cream just over the road plus a great Italian Restaurant La Bocca (best pizza I've had in a long while). There's an IGA and a BWS within walking distance. The park faces onto the Inlet and its a lovely view with walking paths. There's a great kids playground if you follow the path past the wharf, and every day we saw one or two stingrays swimming around the boats which was fantastic!
The facilities are amazing. Our kids loved the indoor water park and slide, hot tub and bouncy pillow. Plenty of BBQs. We didn't need to use the rec room, but it seemed well appointed. My kids also loved the pedal cars they had for hire.
The other guests. Most people were families with young kids, like us, and everyone was so considerate and respectful. There were kids of all ages riding all over the road, and my first instinct was to be concerned about this, but parents kept a close eye and drivers kept to the 10km/h speed limit. BBQs and common areas were clean and usable which means everyone was doing their part. No late night noise either, though the little kiddos are predictably up early making happy noise.
The staff. We didn't need to ask about much but when we did, the staff in the office were helpful and courteous.
Narooma. The town and surrounds is lovely, and it's a short drive to a bunch of great places. We went to Bodalla, Moruya, Bermagui and Tilba and it was an easy drive to each.
CON: My only con is that the cabins are quite dated, but it doesn't actually bother me that much when weighed against so many positives. The accommodation was clean and well maintained, and while we were in quite a small room (the Ensuite Cabin) there was plenty of storage cupboards. We left it a bit late to book this time, but next time time we go we'll book a bigger cabin.
Truth is, if you want a Luxe escape, this isn't it. This is memory-making fun for families with young kids, and easy access to the South Coast. We'll...
