Bendigo Haymarket Motor Inn — Hotel in Loddon Mallee

This motel has been in business long time, I read other reviews covering nearly 20 yrs, some have been good , some reviews very much saying don’t ever stay here , filthy motel, poor service!

It’s been under new management for a little while, we found it it to be ok, it’s a budget motel, and it’s dated in the rooms, and the carpets do need replacing very soon, I don’t think they have ever been professionally steam cleaned, lot of old stains in the carpet and it is very old , but not fraying anywhere !

It’s only small motel in central Bendigo; we found it to be clean and basic, has all the fundamentals , good sized tv, basic small fridge, fairly new RC heater/AC, blackout blind, good hot water service, clean towels, clean bed, previous reviews indicated hygiene issues with beds and sheets, well, we checked, all good there! King size bed, seems to be fairly new and comfortable, and warm !

We booked thru Agoda, check in was seamless today, 5 mins, with key issued! Receptionist was a senior lady who was efficient , organised our booking for stay again next week! Few minor problems, door lock needs maintenance, difficult to operate key in lock and turn, bit of wd40 will help!

Smoke detector needs help, about to self destruct ( rm 5) ;

Receptionist informed me new carpet coming soon in all the rooms !

Will we stay again , yes, but overall due to its age and current standards, it’s really only worth 3.5 stars , not good, if there was motel Olympics for rating standards , it would only get a bronze star ! It’s cheap by other motel costs compare, bit over $100 pn for two people , it’s close to shops on foot and other eateries nearby , so u don’t need to drive car out to feeds if your bit energetic and can walk couple kms !!!

Room has microwave, but is a bit light on for cutlery and crockery , glassware ! U would need to get bigger plates, knives, forks etc if your eating in with take-away tucker ;

The room we were in, had a very nice real leather couch which was comfortable for watching tv or sitting on to read or laying on for a nap ! That’s excellent aspect we liked on our visit here today overnight stay !

We rebooked same room from last week, it’s design and layout suited us, However upon arrival today, we been given different room, no smoke detector, power points well away from bench to recharge devices, and not enough power points either, bathroom smelt off , had to open window to air it out; check in was speedy and efficient , motel still falls down in many areas, still old carpet, stained, we were informed that rooms were getting new carpets within the week we were not here, does not take long to lay new carpet, owners take note: Each room could be done in 3-6 hrs ; So basicly, these rooms are unsafe without smoke detectors ! Unfortunately i didn't have a very accommodating person on the line in regards to booking a room. My friend already had a room booked who didn't need it anymore and because i desperately needed a room she said she'd try and change it to my name. The person who she dealt with said it can't be done so she had to cancel the room and told her to get myself to call asap and he'll try and get me a room. When i called i gave my name and number and he mentioned 'oh do you know how much it'll be' i said yes, as she was charged 120 a night. He said no it's now $180 for one night. I was shocked... seeing as the rooms look very old and run down. It's far from 5 star rating. I then said give me a moment I'll talk to my friend to get the card details. Once i called back saying we will take it but my friend is at work so can he hold the room and I'll call back with card details. This man refused to hold the room for a few hours. Also is aware every hotel has been booked for the weekend needed. You'd think there would be some kind of compassion but no. I called back with card details and he told me the room has been taken. Again I'll say this is way to overpriced for the type of room these motels have to offer. I recently stayed at a lovely place in creswick $155 a night clean brand new and modern 5 star rating! I ordered 3 rooms for the weekend for 6 adults. Needed a queen, double and family room. Booked online and received a confirmation email of the three room booking. We would arrive Saturday and leave Sunday. I booked 3 weeks in advance. |On Thursday before the weekend I got a phone call from the hotel. It was explained they only had two rooms available. I explained I need 3 rooms and was told there was nothing else available. No apology, nothing, in fact I found the man who called quite rude considering it is the hotels error. Simply all I could get was those two rooms. |Poor work on the hotels behalf as apparently my booking only had 2 rooms. I have attached part of the confirmation for my booking.
