Okay so I'm going to begin this review by giving you a back story. Literally 15 minutes before we were ready to head off to the Port of Sale for the 10am boat cruise, I started experiencing some really bad side effects (a combination of fever tingling and a rash-like feeling exploding from my head throughout my whole body).

Because of this, I almost didn't make it to the cruise but I was determined to push through this setback and I'm really glad that I did! The skipper Alan absolutely blew my mind with this extensive knowledge of the history of Sale plus how rich our Aboriginal culture in Gippsland is as well as all the amazing birdlife in the area. It was also a fairly short cruise at 2 hours which was more than enough time to enjoy the surrounds of the Thompson and LaTrobe rivers plus the Swing Bridge.

I was a little nervous that our boat would get stuck in the weeds but Alan was more than capable of navigating through the waters and safely returning us back to the Port of Sale dock! I would highly recommend doing this to anyone interested in the history of Sale or just loves...

What a great, authentic cruise! Allan and his boat the Rubeena are the perfect pair. It felt like we really met someone special on that cruise, passionate about the Gippsland history and eager to share so many amazing stories. I can't recommend it enough, I was a bit worried since it was raining the day we went, but that didn't impact the experience at all, and if it did it just helped us see more Kingfisher! Great pace, top comfort, lovely boat, best captain and beautiful scenery.

Thanks for all your work Allan, it was an honor to travel Flooding Creek, Thomson River and Latrobe River on...

Our cruise on the Sale Canal was both beautiful and fascinating. Our skipper/owner, Allen is in my opinion, a living legend. His commentary was comprehensive, informative and very entertaining. But his association and contributions to Sale itself is equally as interesting as the history of the river. Courtesy of an electric motor, the cruise on the historic Rubeena was peaceful and quite beautiful. The ancient Red River Gums, with evidence of indigenous lifestyle are truly magnificent. Allen points out the wildlife while explaining the construction of the canal and swing bridge. Loved...

You hark back to the time when Gippsland’s waterways were a vital method of transport on a lazy trip between the Port of Sale and the Swing Bridge. Departing twice daily, Port of Sale Heritage Cruises take place aboard the beautiful Rubeena, a wooden craft launched at Lakes Entrance, Victoria in 1912. You’ll drift along the Sale Canal and Thomson River, admiring the birdlife and tall red gums on the banks. Aboard the Rubeena you’ll hear accounts of historic waterborne transport, local wildlife and Gippsland history, beginning with the Aboriginal Gunaikurnai, Gippsland’s traditional owners.
